Every bass I own has the Nordie Preamp in it and pickups are Nordie also. Combination is killer.

I get what you are saying. Nordstrand preamp + Nordstrand preamp (via Starlifter) is a little redundant, especially if you like the tone you are already getting from your onboard pre.
Perhaps just a really good straightforward DI is best for you. REDDI, Radial JDI, Neve RNDI, Khan DI, etc.
FWIW - I have basses (Roscoe 5's) with active preamps (Bartolini) and a passive P with flats. I debated all this stuff for a long time. I finally just said I'm going with what sounds the best to me. I am playing a REDDI into FOH and my IEM's. That's it. No compressor any more. No other effects. Nothing but a tuner/mute pedal. Loving it.

That’s likely where I’ll go. I’m pursuing a little bit of tone with this Hyper Luminal pedal that’s on its way, but I feel like I’ve been over complicating it for a while now.
Analysis Paralysis. I suffer greatly. Keep it simple. go with what sounds good to you. You really can't go wrong with any of the DI's and such in the "shootouts" on here.
I am currently suffering paralysis on a synth decision. I am not as knowledgeable on synth's so that's my excuse.
I recently did a catch and release in the Spectrum. It was amazing, but I knew I really wasn’t going to use it.
But I for one enjoy reading about your tone journey. So keep posting here.

I only had the chance to use it at that rehearsal. A member of the WT developed symptoms, and later tested positive. Our WT did not play Sunday out of caution. It was very impressive! I don't use a hard compression, so I never pushed it, but I was super impressed with the pedal. It is big and it is heavy, but it really did the job. If I ever decided to go minimalist, like my friend Steve, this would be in serious contention. I don't bond well with the menu driven stuff I 've tried. Give me knobs! Something I can understand without reading an online manual. I do look forward to the opportunity to use it further down the road.
@SteveC your findings with the LA-1A and the REDDI not jibing together was an interesting turn for me but I suppose my pedal journey has been full of those kind of surprises. But, makes me wonder if any of you have tried the LA-1A and a Noble? The Noble has been with me for over 2 years and I'm super stoked about it. But I'm also a compression addict.
Well the bass tone is pretty set for now. The synth journey...I may go software. I’ve been thinking about a new MacBook for home to replace my ancient iMac desktop. Well, I get an educator discount so I could get a new MacBook Air and the Logic, MainStage, Final Cut etc. bundle for under $1,100. Add a controller keyboard for $200 and I’m set for well under the price of a Sub37, and I have a MacBook Air for non band use.
I had never used compression until the LA-1A. I wonder if some of what I liked about it was the tubes. I know many people think I’m crazy, but the entire band agreed that the REDDI by itself was my best sound. The P bass sounds the best with TI’s. When you find the sound that works for you, you just go with it. I may be getting wise in my old age.
Amen to avoiding menu driven stuff. I’m a very tech savvy person and I still don’t like them. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at the usual bass player offerings from Line6 or Zoom just to remind myself that I would get frustrated fairly quickly if I had to dive into a menu to change a parameter. I like a quick visual reference to know what’s going on.
I tried it and liked it a lot. The biggest negative to me, was the amount of real estate the combined pedals took up. I would have had to either had to get a bigger pedalboard, or cut some pedals.
