The interesting thing is that the Range control is simply replacing one fixed resistor in the standard James tone stack with a variable resistor. Yet so few have gone there.

I've given that preamp a lot of praise for what it is and I had to move on as well. There's nothing bad about it, but it just didn't end up being on my board for the long haul for my needs. I swapped the tube, used different cab sims, and I once I started fighting it that's when it was time to go...as I do with any piece of gear. I switched over to the Nordstrand Starlifter and it keeps things simple and straight forward. I also have a Broughton RFE placed directly before it that I can kick on to do more shaping when needed.
I'm also too old school (and I'm not even old) to do something like the Stomp. No thanks to menus and I vastly prefer seeing knobs for a quick reference and adjustment opportunity. Great units though, but not for me.
I just got my custom patch cables in today and they are a thing of beauty. Are you making your own or did you order from a company?
Side note: The empty spot is for my 3Leaf Audio Proton v4 that is coming early next week (I even got it at retail!)
Scubaduba's response nailed it! The Oracle with Range has more flexibility in the mids than the Noble.
The Oracle w/DI certainly seems like a great unit. I went "old school" with the REDDI. No preamp, big, heavy, and what I thought had the best tone when listening it all the examples over and over and over…
It does have its drawbacks like the aforementioned size and weight (which may or may not contribute to its tone) and the unaffected through. But even with those considerations, I am still a big supporter of this "last years favorite" big red box.
But, the itch is always there to experiment. Who knows what could happen, but when everyone says this is the best your bass has ever sounded…

You're not cheap, I believe you are smart as only a lunatic will pay for custom cables! Now thankfully I had a giftcard that I received for my birthday, but getting custom-made patch cables is so expensive, like $20 CAD a pop!
Nothing brings me joy then seeing a full case. There is a dumb practice in some hi-end audio to fill empty space with dead weight so it feels more premium...
TBH, I used standard guitar cables on my old pedalboard, and I decided it was time to build something a little more streamlined. I figured I could spend a lot on custom cables, or I could spend a little time and a lot less money doing it myself
Honestly, that is the way to do it. Because I knew that while my board will likely change, the length of cables required wont really, I figured it was a decent excuse. Are you going solder or solderless?
The company that makes it is Aclam out of Spain. Essentially you have little fasteners that lock into the track and when you tighten them, they push forward into the pedal essentially squeezing it into place. I was first a bit skeptical, but I can literally pick up my board by holding any pedal without there being any problems.
Plus, it has the capability of raising the back half so you have a two tiered board. Or, if you have a gig that only requires a couple pedals, you can actually separate it and just talk the top or bottom! It is very slick.
Ok, got the itch to dig a little deeper into dialing in my tone. I thought I'd establish my analog section first and then integrate the digital later. "Studio grade" preamp , compression and DI represented here. Much more extensive EQ will be handled by a SA EQ2, excited to try this hybrid approach.

Has anyone tried the cheap passive DI on Amazon made by Monoprice? It's $17 with Prime shipping. I picked one up in hopes it would work as a signal attenuator and splitter, given that I prefer to control my tone from the bass or my other pedals. I plugged it in today, and I have to say, it sounds great! It is an exact duplication of the output on the bass (when plugged direct into the interface I was using). There is no hum whatsoever. I'm planning to test it in the wild on Sunday.
Almost there. I have a Walrus flanger coming, the one with the lizard on it. The polychrome will replace the TC.
The TC is so cheap and good, but has zero subtlety.
