Worship Bass Pedalboards

Oh man, that sounds sweet! I go back and forth between my P Bass and Modulus VJ depending on the set (and my mood). Yeah, I'm leaning toward not waiting. I've been using an Analogman KOT (from my guitar rig) and it's been surprisingly great, but I want a little more flat (transparent) sound. Also have a digitech compressor that was given to me. It all works, but I like the different Toneprints in the TC stuff. Thanks for the info!

Well, I sat by for awhile gathering up pedals for my pedal board and was constantly feeling like it wasn't organized enough or thought through enough to show anyone. But realized the benefit of the community is that suggestions can be worth a grain of salt or a nugget of Gold, so here it is, in its unfinished state but probably the state it will stay for a little while.

I play nearly a hundred percent at church so I am always running DI, I have a good pair of IEM's and we use Avioms for our headphone mix. I upgraded from a pedal train nano because I wanted a board that was more rugged and long lasting. I am mostly a set it and forget it guy, so tweaking pedals drastically doesn't happen throughout the sets. So here is the specs on it. Any suggestions of order would be greatly appreciated. At some point I would like to get either a programmable sansamp or a sansamp deluxe and an octave or synth pedal. but this is where it is for now.

The Pedal Board is a WestCoast Customs, my line once I get a stereo cable today will be as follows: Bass>Mission VM-Pro>split to Boss TU-2 and Boss CE-3>Mad Professor Blueberry Overdrive>Sansamp BDDI> DI to the board

Yes; the XLR output on the OCSD goes to the PA, and I use the through (uneffected) output to run my amp.

My pedalboard today. Tuner, Bas Preacher, Octaver, envelope, chorus. Happy with that when playing bass with my band.

The thing is that when I lead worship I play acoustic guitar. I find it hard to sing when playing bass. So I was thinking of making a combined pedalboard for bass and guitar.

Then I came over the Line 6 M9. Seems to work for guitar and bass. Has anyone tried it. Is it any good. And can it replace a pedalboard.

My experience is that they sound pretty good, but they are fairly noisy, which makes them a no go for me at church.

Here's my shot at the $30 pedal board i've made over the last couple of weeks (buying pedal boards that fit a multifx unit are expensive) it's a combo of plywood stained black and Jarrah sprayed with a clear gloss finish,

Tones for worship (Not that i'm playing much atm): The compressor, the Le Bass's cabinet sim and preamp are always on Channel A is clean, Channel B has just a little dirt but playing hard or boosting the mids on my bass can increase that, not 100% sure how i'll use the fusion modes yet currently there dialed for more distortion. The para eq on the mid section of the ME-50b has a slight cut at 1k because my main bass needs it (ill get a multi preset eq oneday with a preset per bass), the most frequent tone I use from it is the "Slow Gear" + A little drive makes a decent cello sound which is quite useful, a octave down + Fuzz or Synth + the "resonance" mode on the expression pedal do a decent enough job at synth sounds to cover all that modern synthy stuff. The defretter sounds kind of cool on my semi acoustic with tape wounds. At home the wah and envelope filters are fun to play with, I don't really use the drives (the ok sounding ones loose to much bottom end) and the delays and reverbs, outside a slapback delay I think they both add too much mud too bass outside ambient music and these one's don't have enough control to be useful for that.

I'll get out a proper camera and take some decent picks with it at some point.

Hmm then its a no go. I see they've come up with a new verberizerdelay pedal that look interesting for acoustic guitar. A little bigger then the rest, but still small.

Our services get recorded, I'm not sure how much of the music is recorded or what the mix is like. My board is built 50/50 for bass and guitar, and at home I play both, but at this point I play almost exclusively guitar at church. That's just how things have gone.

On guitar, the Multidrive is my main dirt, I go between clean/OD/distortion with it. Compressor is always on; MS-100BT has an always-on noise gate. H9s handle most modulation and delay. My guitar is in drop D, the Digitech Drop covers 2-3 songs that I play in drop C#. The SY-300 likewise has a few specific sounds/songs that I use it on. The Reflex is there to adjust the H9s as necessary.

On bass, I've never played live with the B7KU, but my old B7K was pretty much always on, compressor always on, occasional H9 stuff. Used the Manta for some envelope sounds sparingly.

Was it your choice to end up mostly on guitar? Currently I'm 50/50 guitar/bass, but I prefer bassing. The B7KU gets a good work out when I'm on bass.

The latter guy also plays acoustic guitar and dabbles in electric guitar, but in general, it just makes more sense for me to be on electric and one of those guys on bass than some other arrangement; we're a stronger band that way. I also am the band leader about once a month, and that's not really something I could do from bass in the same way.

I would love to play bass at least occasionally though (I haven't in quite a while).

I also am the band leader about once a month, and that's not really something I could do from bass in the same way.

Leading from the bass can be difficult. I do it about once a month at my church. The key is to have other team members that can be trusted to open songs and do transitions as directed by the leader.
We have a 3.5 piece band, as I like to call it, at my church: drums, accoustic guitar, bass (me), and I use PADS on my iPad to add a base under the music (which can be slightly underwhelming otherwise). We also then have 4 vocalist to help carry the songs. We used to have an electric guitarist that I could rely on for anything, but he has since gotten married and moved away. Our accoustic guitarist is a great guy, but not a great musician. Things can get hairy every now and then. On Sunday durring an especially tender point in worship, he played an entire song in G-capo2 rather than with no capo at all. He had no idea. Fortunately, We cut the pads and I transposed the song on the fly. No one in the congregation could tell the difference and the mood was never ruined.

Re: your capo story, we've unfortunately had to learn all too well when to stop and restart songs. A few times it's been a tempo/time signature issue. This past Sunday there was a key issue...for a different song we had been practicing, the keyboardist used an automatic transposition on the keyboard and forgot to take it off for our opening song. I knew it on the first chord I hit. We restarted halfway into the first verse (I wasn't leading).

Re: leading from different instruments, I am not a very strong vocalist, but I do actually sing when I lead. I am usually surrounded by strong singers, so my role is as more of an ensemble/backup singer than a lead singer (though as band leader sometime I have to take the lead in terms of making sure people know which part we're on). But that's another factor; it's easier for me to sing playing guitar than playing bass overall (and it makes certain guitar parts very hard). If I wasn't singing or at least were singing less, I could imagine doing more of a "band leader" thing purely on bass.
