Worship Bass Pedalboards

Fascinating thread

Great read

What's everyone's favorite preamp/DI pedal

Lots of fuss over the boutique offerings (Capo - FX Loop!!!) but read that some players fall back to the ubiquitous Tonehammer

Gets the job done simply and effectively

I'm a modeling player

My favorite sims are usually the Aguilar, Markbass, or Polytone

Thoughts on a simple tuner > HPF > Preamp/DI?

Here's how it looks after a service. I leave the knobs where they are just in case I really liked the sound I got. The EG knob can change the overall sound drastically compared to the filter. I am no expert by any means but I downloaded some presets from a YouTube channel (emilio rivera) that I really liked and then used the software program to pick apart how to achieved the sounds manually. Since I'm not Stevie wonder I just settle on nice thick bass with some slow lfo. *chefs kiss.

I have to download the program and mess around with it. It seems like a nice resource that I'm missing.
I hear you on the Stevie Wonder thing. I try to get a deep and thick tone and roll with it. The team seems to be happy with the sounds I'm getting, but I'd like to get to the point where I'm comfortable setting the sounds if I walked into a room with someone else's synth..or another brand, etc.

Grizzly is an awesome piece of kit isn't it!
I love the variable LPF, especially through in ears it tames the high end nicely, also allows me to run my main DI more open for variety.

I'm really liking it more and more. I think I'm going to start using the Holy Fire though. Partly because I've been comparing it to the Grizzly and without touching the lower knobs I can't really hear a lot of difference...and it's already mounted on my board. Plus, I think it looks cool.

im not going to say it can't be done… but to me it's hard to get really good clarity from the B with a just P bass pickup. I mean sure, it works ok… I loved my fender American pro P 5 and played it exclusively for years, but it may be on the chopping block. Or maybe it just needs to have a J pup added to it :cautious:
Still not sure what I really want out of a 5er nowadays… they used to be all I played! Didn't have a steady keys player for a long time so the low B helped lots. Now that I play with keys 99% of the time, I'm okay with letting them handle it if need be.
I didn't think you could say that on talkbass :roflmao:

that super P does look cool !

Yeah, the balance between the B string and the other 4 is the tough part. I have played a few basses that could work. The Roscoe P5s sound good and the AV Basses are nice. I have a nice AV bass but haven't used it at a service because it's a tiny bit heavier than I'd prefer.

I've really been enjoying the sound of the EQD Blumes for my drive/distortion, especially in the bigger sections of songs on our Worship set. The only problem is I can't decide which I like more, Mode 2 or Mode 3...

I dig Mode 2 because of its transparency; I treat it like a channel selector for my preamp (SGT-DI), so I get that great pushed Ampeg sound. But Mode 3 works well in worship songs that have that more modern distorted bass (a la Microsynth) sound. Of course I can just reach down and switch modes, but with the gain structure of the two modes being different, I have to do some knob tweaking as well.

I guess I need to get myself a second Blumes pedal... :roflmao:

Not necessarily worship related, but need help here as this influences the sound at my church. Still trying to dial in a good distortion/drive on the stomp. this song we recorded with high school students, and toward the end we use an octave in the stomp. Sounds decent. At the very end we kick on the obsidian 7000, but I feel like the bass got quieter. When we play just bass alone, that od seems to add considerable volume, i mean it gets loud! but in the mix it sounds weaker. Any advice welcome. If more information is needed just let me know. I will say the mids are pretty scooped, so maybe that's the problem?

The mix seems really dense, I can imagine it'd be hard to hear the overdrive.. More mids would definitely help but in this case overdrive doesn't seem necessary imo. An octave is a good choice though. Always a good choice. Lol

Right on. I'm not the one mixing it, so I can't change anything, but again I noticed the bass losing something at the very end. Makes me want to invest in an external drive. I don't like what's in the stomp.

Have you done any experimenting putting the drive in a parallel path? To me that's the secret unlocking the best drive tones for base on the HXS.

What are some good examples of the EHX Microsynth in a live worship setting?

For those of you with one, when do you use it?
For those wondering, the best example seems to be the peak of Starlight by Bethel, which ironically, is one of my favorite worship songs. I just didn't know know that sound was the bass lol

And Mat Ogden has an HX Stomp preset to simulate the sound.

I gigged for years with whatever DI the room provided. Then I got a Sansamp and threw it in my gig bag for when I was playing at a place with backline provided (just to have a familiar piece of gear). Did that for a few years.

My church has a Sansamp, and it's a piece of gear that I know well. When I first started playing there, I asked if they wanted me to use it instead of my board. I would have been happy to use it, but they let me bring what works best for me. Currently, I have the Noble. I would never say that someone NEEDS one, but it's just something that I prefer to use, especially after going ampless. I just like what it does to my basses. Any number of other preamps would work though.

Overall the bass is lacking in mids. More drive would help this. The obsidian block is more distortion/fuzz than drive. Try the teemah block with the gain cranked in parallel and adjust the level setting to unity output.

Part of the reason I love teemah block on hx is it adds bass. So much so they include a low cut dial to get back to unity.

The mids are lacking throughout the whole track?

I don't think that is unreasonable. You could also stack them. I've had 2 drives on my board for the last few services and I like it. You could even get different colors of the Blumes.

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking... I already have one in the Sweetwater exclusive "Ruby" color, figured I could grab just the standard yellow one for my second one.
