yeah, for me, I don’t need anymore saturation than what the capo offers. I’ve always wanted one the la1a comps. But I think the empress or c76 is more than sufficient for me, and my wallet. Lol
For sure— Different strokes for different folks, & that's perfectly ok!
On the below board my clean tone is the CAPO off, while the CAPO provides me with two additional gain stages, the Fifth Gear is the third. I use the LA-1A more for its Tube saturation than I do for it's compression. I use the ND Humboldt for it's parallel compression, as well as it's transformer saturation.
I stack several low level saturated signals to arrive at moderate & higher gain tones, rather that dialing in higher gain tones from the get go. I find each of the components add qualities that provide me with a more nuanced tone than I would arrive at with one or two circuits dialed to higher settings.
