Worship Bass Pedalboards

I'm currently testing this setup:

There are things that I like about the Compact Bass and things I like about the Bass Compressor. I'm leaning towards the CB, but time will tell.
I've never tried a Cali76 Compact Bass Compressor. I use an Empress Effects Bass Compressor.

Does anyone know how the Cali compares to the Empress? Thoughts?

I've been using the Aguilar emulations on the stomp for a couple of years. This week someone noticed that I had an actual TH on the board and immediately everyone started commenting on how the tone was great etc lol

I mean, I love it and I do think I do a better job of getting a good tone out of it this way but I'm sure it 95% placebo.

Yup! No one said a word until they saw the noble on the board... Then the tone compliments came.

I absolutely love the aesthetic of this & know for a fact that it sounds amazing!! If the slightly higher noise floor of the CB isn't a deal breaker, I'd say that's your keeper. I love the extra color/zing/magic it has in the upper mids and higher frequencies.

Getting ready to put together a compact board for P&W ( and other genres)…. I *think* it'll be simple, something like …

Canvas Tuner —->Line 6 Stomp XL —->Mesa Subway preamp/DI

Thoughts on this setup ?

I also have available for the pedalboard, should I choose to go a different route than the simple board mentioned above.

Moollon Bassdrive
Hudson Broadcast Dual
Analogman Mini Chorus
J Rockett Airchild 660 compressor
Mesa Subway Preamp/DI
Canvas tuner
Sescom DI (Jensen transformer)
Shure Wireless/tuner

And could add octave/fuzz/etc

I'm really thinking of going the HX Stomp little board. I've been playing with it and it's an amazing unit.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm SUPER experienced in rock/country/etc but I'm brand new to the P&W world.

Peace and love, my friends-

Andy

Tuner, stomp and choice of flavor afterwards is always acceptable in my book.

So the million dollar question: how much of a difference in tone between the $1300 Noble and the $150 Canvas????

You mean the $1,150 question?

The noble is good. Really, really good (but I decided I'd rather have the quad cortex). Jack builds an amazing tube DI/preamp and I am fortunate enough to be able to have purchased one and play it for as long as I wanted. It is 100% a luxury item! If you have the means to pay cash for one and it doesn't affect anything else, try it! But don't go thinking it's the holy grail / end all be all. None of them are.
Also… don't discount the khan, if I was going to buy a tube DI again, that's what I would buy. I loved that red box!

The walrus canvas DI/LI, I'm using as a line isolator after the stomp and there's only a couple other options that offer the LI at the moment… but I got it in a trade so that made it an easy choice and it does exactly what it says it does.

I only spent a little bit of time with the Empress. It's a great compressor. Some people say that it is more transparent than the Cali76, and the Cali76 has more 'color'. I don't have golden ears, but I just went with the Cali because I found a tone that worked better for me. Not a super technical answer, but it's the best I got.

I think either option would work well. The other thing you can do is build a hybrid. If, for example, you like the Airchild better than the comps in the Stomp, then you can add it before the Stomp. I do find a wireless to be very useful though, if you can squeeze it on the board. Not a necessity, but it makes it easy to leave the stage for the announcements, or for walking out front for sound check, or just to keep the stage cleaner, etc. I wouldn't suggest going out an buying one, but since you already have it...
