Hello to all,
I have to play "Salvation is Here" by Hillsong tommorrow for a youth service at a friends church :bawl: I absolutely love the song, but man that bridge is KILLER! I thought I was good, but I cannot keep up with that bridge "a tempo" for the life of me (110bpm straight 16th notes). At least not fingerstyle. I can play it with a pick without any hiccups, but I hate playing with picks. I just can't really get my groove on with 'em :(
I've been practicing with my metronome for that past hour, and just decided to take a break and vent out to you guys :smug:
Anybody else have this problem with this song?

I'm playing that song on Sunday for the first time as well. Psyching up for the rapid fire finger action. I think we're going to be fine... God Bless and God Speed!

I played that song once, but it's been a while. I used a six string, which from what I can remember made for a better left hand position. I don't like picks either. I just went for it. I'm sure I missed a few notes. It doesn't matter. One of the younger guys at church played it a few times, but cheated and used a pick.

I had to learn that song for a week long camp that I played bass for in the summer. Didn't have a problem with that section, but I had problems with the intro/verse. You can be creative and use a delay pedal if you can't get it. BTW we didn't end up playing the song the entire week, go figure.

Ha Ha. My issue was exactly the opposite. The intro and verses were fine but that section would killed me. The issue was getting all the notes even so it sounds like a synth, and so sometimes I would get choked up on a note or two and end up dragging the song. Eventually I got it down (with a pick :rollno: ) But most importantly the kids were all worshipping and that's what matters most! :bassist:

Mhhmmm I love that bridge. This is where a pedal, envelope filter in particular, comes in super handy. Honestly though, if you are uncomfortable playing it as fast as it is played by Hillsong, there is absolutely no shame what so ever in changing it up a bit. I mean I have changed loads of riffs because I didn`t quite have them mastered when the service came. Just slow it down a little and add a bit more of a funk aproach. Most worshipers wont notice.

I've been playing bass for my church's youth group the last couple months. I don't really know the songs well enough to have a favorite yet. So far, I just learn the chord progressions during the hour practice before the youth group starts and improvise from there. We are in a class room, so I just use my little Peavey practice amp. I've been having trouble finding sonic-space to play in. Besides me, we have drums, acoustic guitar, and keyboards and everyone wants to play the rhythm.:(

BUT i do keep in mind that praise band is not for my glory but for HIS so I try to keep that in mind at all times...

It's all about the groove!! :) "All Bow Down" is a great song...starts with the bass line and builds up...one of our favorites at my fellowship.

That's awesome Hollow.....keep it up! Try to "learn" song outside of rehearsal so you can make the most of the actual time together with the band. You'll soon start to find grooves or tricks in finger patterns and chord progressions. Keep on asking questions ehre if you have any...we'll be glad to answer!

I've too played that song in the past. It's a great finger workout. I found that I could play to the CD very decently...however when we went to play it live our drummer (young and excited fella) would rush the intro so badly that we would have to back it down coming into the bridge. Always felt weird but I would stick the solo and then almost start cramping towards the end!! Hehe....anyhow very fun song to play. It helps to try and keep your left hand in one position and play the arpeggios with your right hand moving up and down. Also, practice playing it at soft levels, it will help you use less attack...more attack tires your fingers out quickly.

Man, I feel like a bone head...I realized on Saturday night that the 1st version I had might have been different then the 2nd version that I had just received from my Worship leader (that I had only listened to the first part of...heah heah...)

I had listened and pretty much worked out the song from the recording I had first been privy to....and THEN I gave the second recording a FULL listen... Whoa Nellie! That's very Cool... back to the wood shed...


Needless to say, our version did not have as "articulating bass" in teh "bridge" as the Hillsong version. I did enjoy the doublstops through the intro and verse and galloped in the chorus parts. Still a work out on a Spririted Song.

Any one have that BRIDGE written out????

As an aside, we played Crowder's "Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord" last Friday, thats kind of a fun Bass in the front Worship song, especially the first part.

I would love to play "All Bow Down", my 7 year old knows all the words to that one and belts it out with Daddy whenever we hear it in the car.

We play "Salvation is here" and I was very impressed when I gave it a listen and started working on it. I got it down and it really sounded great. I was disappointed when my drummer came up to me and said he saw a video of them and the bassist uses an effect to get the passage correct. I gave it a re-listen and now I can hear that he's probobly correct with his info. All the same, cool song and line

The song can be played fingerstyle all the way through. No effects. Now, I'm gonna have to transcribe it!! Give me a few days. Hehe.

Man no wonder those 16ths were so perfectly timed :scowl:
Either way, their bassist is still a beast of a player :bassist:
