Thanks man... I am enjoying writing... I have 2 songs that are more or less (mostly less) done... the 1st is a setting of a Psalm in a pretty much "praise chorus" type thing... the second I have got the lyrics done (with some adjustments, I am sure will come) and an idea for the style or feel, but need to hammer out melody & harmony stuff... got a couple other ideas bouncing around... I am new to the whole "contemp christian" thing (grew up in the south on Southern Gospel). I am hoping we will still be doing the Christian cover stuff... I really like Newsboys, and I want to play some of the parodies by Apologetix...

I have practice tonight for a musical I haven't spent enough time practicing - with my old church. We're performing tomorrow at Wakulla Correctional and this Sunday at church. It's called "God is Here" and is arranged by Bradley Knight - CD performance is the Prestonwood Choir (I believe in Houston). Has some really groovin' numbers and the horn parts are really nice with lots of hits.

Gear, as of lately my Sadowsky NYC 5 has been preferred by our FOH guys. They love that thing. I dig it too, but my Valenti J/MM 5 is growly as heck, and it really bites through, but they dig the Sad more.
Usually a line out of my WT800 with one (and on rare days both) 210XST.
Sometimes just a DI and just use one of the monitors (usually EAW or LA Acoustic).

Hi everyone. I don't know if I qualify to be a worship bassist because I'm Roman Catholic, but I've read all the posts on this thread, and it seems to me that RCs are under-represented here, so let me be the first (AFAIK). I just recently started playing bass, but I've been playing guitar for 35 years now, so it wasn't a hard transition, just a different approach. I joined the folk group at our local church (Mary Queen Of The Rosary Church here in Spencer, MA) and I'm enjoying it tremendously. We have an excellent folk group with excellent musicians and singers, but there was no bass, and the music cried out for one, so I took the plunge and offered my services. I feel like my musical talents are a gift from God and I need to express myself and use the gift to give glory to God and as a way of thanking Him for all the gifts, graces, and blessings He has seen fit to give me.

Favorite songs? Not yet. I'm still struggling to learn the material. But, as they say at McDonald's "I'm lovin' it!".

Well, I did my first gig today at my church, Heaton Baptist, today!

I was scheduled for a practice session of an hour and then the service, which was a communion service, and so quite a high-profile service.
We chose 7 songs, 3 for the start, 2 for the interval after the notices, 1 before the communion and 1 for leading people out as we finished the service. I just felt really inspired and I was really happy, not just in a physical sense but in a spiritual sense. I was really inspired by God and I just left Him be my conductor. Needless to say, I was guided and didn't screw up royally.
The only major problem I had was during practice when I misjudged the tuning of my G string, tightened it far too tight and it snapped on me. But I ended up with a souvenir of the gig!

Got another performance next Sunday, except this time I'm doing the evening service. I'll pray for all you guys!

Hey guys...another newbie to the thread! Been playing in the worship enviroment sence 1989, first at a Lakeside Community church and for the last 10 years for Greater Life Apostolic church in Utica MI. Also I've done a lot of subing jobs playing for other churches in the area, Most recently at Woodside Bible Church. I've been very blessed to play with praise band members who were/are not only great musicians but great saints of God! Influences are Lincoln Brewster, Chris Tomlin, Isrial and New Breed, Hillsong, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Norm Stockton, Truth, 4Him, MercyMe, Don Moen, GLAD (vocal band)....Just to name a few. I did going to other churches and listening to their worship bands!

Gear wise my rig at church consists of a GK 1001 RB MKII head and SWR Goliath III 2x10 and SWR Goliath III 4x10. The 2x10 stays in storage most of the time and I just use the 4x10. When DI'ing into the system I use the DI on the GK. When were not using cabs and just running DI with IEMs I use a Radial JDI. Korg rack tuner and Aphex Punch Factory Comp. Basses are MTD 535 Ash Wenge/Wenge, Carvin AC50F Fretless (this is a Awsome sounding fretless) and I just picked up a Sadowsky Mv5 '59 burst with Maple neck/board and VTC. I just played it for the first time in service this morning at it really kicked but! The sound guys really like my MTD but they were amazed at the thunder the Sadow produced...I'll be playing this one a little more I think!

Nothing better than using your talents for God. The worship enviroment has changed soo much over the years. It has amazed me how far along everything from the music being played to the technology that has found its way into our churches. Some of the best sounding rooms I've played in have been in churches, some of the most knowledgeable sound lighting and tech staff too!

Love the "matchin' natural" Jazzes.....is that one in the back the Fender or a Lakland I do not know about?????? or wait, is the JO 5 new? hard to keep them all straight!

anyhow....love the pic and the Praise going on in it!!!!

PS - need a natural JO soon.....'cept mine will be more like Mr. Claytons (IF we can ever get that one off the ground!!!)

That's my 4-string Fender Special Edition Jazz: Ash/pau ferro.

Since I got my JO5 in December 2006, the 4-string is the only bass I've bought. That's kinda crazy for me! :smug:

Dude, I'm tellin' ya!! Make that a a JO5, natural with black BnB and I'd probably have to jump. Either way, the four string version is gonna be nice if you can get that going!!

One step at a time my friend.....beleive it or not, a 5er would have less "appeal".....however, I will stop there since I do not want to "de-rail" such a great thread!!!!!

Great thread!! I'm moving the Northern VA in January 2008 and hope to find a new church home and somewhere I can occasionally play. Work and settling into the new digs will probably keep me from playing much at first.

Xavier, worked it up finally this evening (the bridge).

Not quit up to speed but getting the basic groove down.

We play it again this Sunday so I am hoping I'll be able cop it note for note as you have kindly transcribed. I altered the fingering ever so slightly on the E based measures (wide spanning root to 3rd on same string, 5th on next string with index finger). Now I just gotta get right hand even smooth through the drill.

I mainly play through the system, though, and very rarely use my own amp and cab. When I use my amp and cab and I have the amp set with high post EQ boost, 3 o'clock high and low mids, and flat lows and highs. I forget what I have set up on my GT-6B but I always have the compressor, EQ, and SVT amp emulation on.

We (my youthgroup) love to play loud and hard stuff. Favorite song at the moment? Has to be "Break Free" by Hillsong United. We pretty much play a lot Hillsong United, Passion, Matt Redman, David Crowder, etc... more modern stuff. On Sundays for full services we play some normal Hillsongs, hyms, anthems, some Chinese stuff (most of our congregation is Chinese, but we're not really a Chinese church).

Views on prayer and worship? We pray hard so we can play hard.

Did not know where to ask: Have not been able to find em ANYwhere... I am relatively new to the contemporary/rock Christian scene (and bass)... Anybody help me out? I already have the chord sheets for these, but I am looking for tabs (or actual bass music) for:
