That's awesome..I might get a chance to play bass in Ecuador (my home country) this April at series of evangelical street concerts...starting to save money now so I can go and be blessed. What type of work do you do? God is in control and He provides to His children. Stay faithful to Him. God bless you bro.

In Mexico we were doing door to door witnessing and then we would hold a service at night. I had the privledge of leading that team, it was a lot of fun.

In Rwanda we are doing crusades at the university in the capital (no idea what it is called). I will be working with my mentor (Link Removed) who will be handling the bulk of the speaking. I will also be doing some speaking/teaching/preaching, which is where my giftings fall into. Unfortunately I wont be playing bass there, but I can deal with that.

Turns out that I am going back to Mexico in November, my dad runs a bible school down there (he runs it from here) and the first graduation is in November. So I will be there for that. I have taught there for a few weeks before.

I'm going away at the end of the month on a retreat for students. I love these retreats and the added bonus of this one is that I'm doing worship for the Sunday prayer and praise morning!


I'll be playing to most of my friends, a few church staff and some guests of the church. I can't wait. z

No posts in almost a month!!!

I have been lucky enough to play for the last two weeks and maybe this week as well (we have multiple bass players).....debued my DJ5 last week.....it was really nice except I had to raise the strings a hair (too much "clank")...the B string is wonderful for some of the more "traditional stuff" like "Before the Throne of God"...

It also fit in well with "Above All" - did some of the "walk-downs" high and some "LOW" for variation......

I was just thinking about this thread the other day. I have been asked to lead worship sometime. I don't know if I am up for that, I would much rather just sit in the back and pump out the bass line.

I know I do not have the talent to lead worship....I am always amazed at the things that the worship leader comes up with "on the spur of the moment"....the LORD really does lead and give you the words....

if the leaders in your church are asking you to lead, give it a try....obviously they see the Spirit in you!!!

Yeah, I have had two of the worship leaders and the pastor ask me to lead. Thing is I have absolutely no confidence in my voice. Some days I can sing and other days I can't hit a note to save my life. I can already play most of the songs on guitar, so that would be a problem for me. Too bad it is so hard to get people together to practice. I also wouldn't mind playing electric guitar at church

I have played the last 2 weeks and the Praise leader says he does not need me the next two weeks.....(Palm Sunday and Easter)....I travel alot for my job and thus, do not get to play as often as I want to....this is kind of bumming me out....

We have two bass players and the other bass player is much better than me so he uaually gets the holidays and "special" Sundays....

Sorry to complain....I know it is wrong to be envious...but I want to offer what I can WHEN I can...

I'd like a number also! Naples Christian Church in Naples, Florida. I use the basses shown on my avatar with a Line 6 XT Pedalboard for the effects into a Sansamp RBI, then into the P.A. Works great!!

There are too many great Christian bands out there to mention writing excellent stuff. Personally, I enjoy "Casting Crowns" the best- the music's well done, but the lyrics are very real and very "everyday life". Give it a listen if ya havn't.

We've had this contemporary service going on 6 years now at this church and have seen many lives changed! IMO there's no greater calling than to use the gift He gave me for His Glory!!

Getting ready for my church's Good Friday/Easter program, "Lift Up the Cross" (by Dennis/Nan Allen).

The choir has been rehearsing since January. They brought in the musicians 2 weeks ago. Had to learn 8 songs including "Who Am I" and "Once Again" which I already knew. For such programs, I find I have to play a bit differently when accompanying a choir (sometimes more notes, sometimes a lot less notes). I also have to learn to turn pages while playing (any hints on this?).

Anyone else playing special music for this Good Friday/Easter?

I was supposed to be playing a multi church Good Friday service (6 or so churches), but it is looking like that isn't panning out because we have yet to practice. Would have been a lot of fun, but it is just as well because I don't like playing music off a page. Although it would have been awesome because the girl that was supposed to be leading it went to the Hillsong school of worship and used to sing with United.

Just got back from our Palm Sunday services at our local Catholic Church. Our Folk Group was in rare form today, the Spirit was most definitely there with us, guiding us along. We sounded like we could do no wrong! Ok, maybe a clam or two here and there, but thay's OK, we wouldn't be human if we didn't make a mistake once in a while! For our Communion hymn we tried a song that most of you will probably recognize, called Above All, which is not really a Catholic hymn but rather a Christian Contemporary song. We nailed it! It's a beautiful song, one which as a bassist I felt I could really sink my teeth into, even Father Jim liked it (and he's hard to please!). Hopefully this means we'll be playing some more Christian Contemporary music, I'd like to try some of the songs our Evangelical brothers and sisters play, such as the Hillsong music I keep reading about here in this thread.

Looking forward to Good Friday and Easter services. Good Friday will be a bit more somber and reverential, while Easter Sunday will be joyful and triumphant!

Get music stand extenders...only way I could do it without flipping pages. I would tape 3 or 4 sheets together and then rip them off the stand to the ground as we progressed through the song. Now I play at a church where we use only lyrics sheets with chords written in by hand and photocopied out for all the players. Also, most of the songs are fairly simple so I can memorize most of them.

My church is setting up a 1200 seat outdoor tent. It will be visible to the entire neighborhood. We've lined up some Tomlin, Redman, and Hillsong and a few originals. I'll try to get some pics so I can post here for everyone.

Just finished final rehearsal for Friday. Thanks for the tip. I got most of them memorized enough so I can turn pages after the fact. Our guitarist has someone to turn pages for him (he may need someone to put the capo on for him as well... JK).

Lyric sheets with chords written on them is the only way to go. I hate trying to read lead sheets or sheet music. Today the Spirit really showed up and we rocked the house. I got so into worship while playing "I will do the same" that I forgot that I was playing and messed up an entire verse. It was all good though.

It's fun trying to recover from those slip ups....I usually slide up or down if I hit the wrong note or if I lose my place I'll idle on a root until i can pick up the groove again. Most people never notice but the music director will throw some eyes at you!! hehe.

I was hoping the "Saving the World" by Clay Crosse was licensed by CCLI. That would be a great intro song for Easter. We added "By His Wounds", "Wonderul Cross", and "Kingdom of God" for Easter.

Lyric sheets work sell. We recently upgraded our video system. The Main screen on stage is huge. We also added a screen in the rear of the sanctuary for the band to use. So now we can get away from stands all together.
