Lyric sheets work sell. We recently upgraded our video system. The Main screen on stage is huge. We also added a screen in the rear of the sanctuary for the band to use. So now we can get away from stands all together.

Most services I can play without any music, but I like to have it front of me just in case. Although I am rarely close enough to my stand to read it. I walk all over the place when I am playing, me and the drummer have our own built up stage that is behind everyone else. I have a spot about 8 feet wide by 15-18 feet long that I walk all over. I'll even turn around and face the wall when I am playing from time to time.

The choir has been rehearsing since January. They brought in the musicians 2 weeks ago. Had to learn 8 songs including "Who Am I" and "Once Again" which I already knew. I also have to learn to turn pages while playing (any hints on this?).

As for page turning, I am unorthodox (no pun intended)....I take photocopies of the music and cut it into pieces to make it into no more than 4 sheets....I can the read it rom one music stand without turning pages....it makes some of the other musicians cringe but others laugh and tell me I am smart....

For our Communion hymn we tried a song that most of you will probably recognize, called Above All, which is not really a Catholic hymn but rather a Christian Contemporary song. We nailed it! It's a beautiful song, one which as a bassist I felt I could really sink my teeth into, even Father Jim liked it (and he's hard to please!). Hopefully this means we'll be playing some more Christian Contemporary music, I'd like to try some of the songs our Evangelical brothers and sisters play, such as the Hillsong music I keep reading about here in this thread.

Looking forward to Good Friday and Easter services. Good Friday will be a bit more somber and reverential, while Easter Sunday will be joyful and triumphant!:)

stratovani: congrats man! sounds like a great service with alot to be thankful and praiseful for!

I LOVE ABOVE ALL....mellow but you can definately "dress it up" a bit on bass with some tasteful passing notes etc.

I go to both a Catholic church and a Lutheran Church (long story) but play in the praise band at the Lutheran Church so I know where you are coming from....the praise team at the Catholic church is good and they have some good "message" songs but I feel more comfortable playing modern Christian music....I love Easter Sunday - kind of a "rush" after - as you put it - a somber weekend.

Most people never notice but the music director will throw some eyes at you!! hehe.

I do the same or I drop out for a measure or two to "catch back up"....or play REALLY low.....usually the only people who "really" notice are the guitarist and the drummer....we all slip up once in a while!

PS - Brim - we NEED pics!!! Hallelujah! (you will be playing on Easter Sunday so I can use that word....even though we are in Lent now)....

My dad (the pastor) just got a call today, from the hydro company, telling us that the power to our church is going to be off on Sunday from 7am until 10am. Hmm, turning off the power in a church on Easter Sunday? Wow, you guys are really smart. I get to call them tomorrow and ask them to do it at a different time. We have practice from 9 to 9:45 and the service starts at 10. This might be interesting.

We got word today that it has been moved to the last Sunday in March, but still at the same times. Every pastor from town has called to complain. We are trying to get them to start an hour earlier and end an hour earlier. That way we would have power again at 9. Still an inconvenience for a few churches in town.

I'm looking forward to being part of the worship team, as well on Sunday. '71 Ash/Maple Ibanez J-bass with the hot-rod treatment for the modern sound; Clement piezo fretless for upright like tones....

hAve you ever had a rehearsal for worship that was so rushed that the worship leader never stopped to pray and songs weren't finished being rehearsed? It was a rough rehearsal musically and spiritually and it just leaves that awkward taste in your heart about ministry...

Yep. I hate those kinds of rehearsals. I wind up with my nerves on edge, and can't really worship like I should. I wind up micromanaging every little thing I play, for fear that I will mess up.:hmm: We have rehearsals like that occasionally. It is usually caused either by starting the rehearsal too late, or trying to learn too many new songs in a rehearsal. We do a 30 minute, once a week. IMHO, one new song is the limit if you are having a 30 minute rehearsal.

Doug -

Man...I wasn't sure if I would even make it to Easter worship rehearsal (tonight)...my entire family has been hit with a flu-like cold thing, 2 of my 3 kids, myself, my dad, and now my wife. I'll try to get some pics for sure. I'm planning on taking my little DV-cam and laying it on top of my rig during the worship to pick up some live sound and then also using it to film from the stage when we have our Easter baptisms (last year my wife was baptised along with 40 others!!). I'll post some of that for you guys to see.

Lent??? What is this Lent thing I hear about?? :) Just poking ya. :ninja:

I have no idea what songs we are doing Easter morning. Probably just some of the normal ones that we do. Our church doesn't really do anything special for Easter, no big service or anything. Our church doesn't have a bunch of "Christmas and Easter" Christians so there is no big swell of people showing up either.

Hey everyone. This isn't directly about worship, but I need your prayers. I have to deal with an extremely hard issue that has come up on Monday and I can't do it without God's help and strength. I also know that the other person cannot do with without the same. So please keep me in prayer for the next few days. Thanks.
