Even if there were a theoretical cure, there would be no shortage of patients. Hell, I'm a pharmacist and it doesn't indicate were't anywhere near curing either. Besides, there's gotta be tons of fame and dough to be had for being the first to cure it.

I'm sure most of you have been in love. I mean follow each other to the end of the earth love. If the person you were in love with got a terminal - maybe even communicable - disease, how would your feelings for them change? For most of us, in a crazy kind of way, I think the relationship would get closer because of your drive to protect your partner. I really believe that none of you would turn and run. Instead, you'd find a way to keep as much of the love and affection you always had...maybe even more.

OBVIOUSLY, the OP question is different because it is about starting a NEW relationship. Still, as a guy with some potentially serious health complications, I know my better half couldn't have resisted me anyway ;). Health and love don't "speak" to each other rationally. Besides, HIV is a well-understood disease compared to 25 years ago. Those who are infected can have long, healthy and productive lives (e.g. Magic Johnson)...AND sex lives.

I'm not saying anyone SHOULD feel differently than they do. It's a terrifying and complicated thing we're talking about here. My point is that love is way bigger and more powerful than any disease, and trust me that nothing in the world would make me run away from it.

As for a date? Love has to start somewhere, right?

I know that this is what people say. This isn't always the case. I'd think anyone working in a metro hospital would tell you otherwise. It's not as widespread as it once was, but it's still out there and still quite devastating.

I guess every research scientist on the planet is ********. There is no cure. Some people have HIV for decades before the onset of aids. I believe Magic Johnson does not have full blown aids.

Are you basing this on anything other than paranoia and the case of a professional athlete who caught it extremely early and can afford the very best doctors, drug cocktail, diet, etc.?

And there's a TON of money that goes with finding the cure. As has been mentioned about a hundred times in this thread.

I never said I thought that.

Compare the number of people that have type 2 diabetes and the number of people that die every year as a result of it in the USA to the number of people that have HIV and have died as a result. Note that type 2 diabetes can effectively be prevented and controlled by diet and exercise but the numbers still dwarf the HIV numbers by at least an order of magnitude.
