I got the idea when I noticed a circular clean spot on the cabinet door above my toilet. At first I didn't understand what would be rubbing against it to polish that clean spot. Then one night while severely drunk, I found myself leaning against it with the top of my head for stability while I was peeing. That's when the mental lightbulb came on, fluttered a bit, then burned out.

Necessity is the mother of invention!

And Frank Zappa.....

I believe Henry Ford invented the Model T in much the same manner.

The biggest impediment to technology at this point is cost - especially medical tech. We're running out of resources to further us much more. Space program is a big example; rare-Earth metals another, fossil fuels another, expensive medical procedures... meh.

Luckily, we've been sending our young men out in the world to get limbs blown off so the advances we've made in some cyborg tech is progressing nicely.

That's actually somewhat true. I've seen some video demonstrations of prosthetics that hook up to certain nerves and can be reasonably controlled by them. They're hugely expensive and I doubt you could play bass with arms like that, but technology tends to get smaller, better, and more affordable as time goes by.

The cost is largely in the research. We just need additional wars and tragedy and we can sort this whole thing out.
