Made it to day 19, daily practice.

Plan was to take it along with a back up to band practice Sunday and see how that worked.
It decided to self destruct this afternoon...
Powered on, I'd muted the feed at the Stobestomp to answer the door and got sidetracked.
Only to come back in to the room to the sound of a mocking ticking and the lingering wiff of ozone.

No Mas...

I'm not surprised, and I'm glad that it did not leave me in the middle of a gig.

But I am going to miss the little fella...

I own a different TC amp (BQ-500) that I'm plenty happy with and I've had it a couple of years -- I bought it with my first stimulus check. The BAM had already been out for a while when I bought my amp in early 2020 -- I briefly considered one before deciding it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I find myself wondering if there's any possibility these are counterfeits.

Mmmm ozone. I love that smell but not from fried electronics.

When companies "do it wrong" we call it: "Sales Prevention"
When they cross in to the Stupid Zone we call it: "Brand Destruction" aka - get your former customers to tell all their friends and family how much they hate you, vs just going away for a while.

They would have been better off sending these to the recycler.

I really wanted the BAM to work....my tonal aspirations are pretty basic, it has a DI and a headphone jack so it checked more than one box. (I'm from the "never buy a tool that only has one use - except a fire extinguisher" school for most things)

Did some errands on the run to Kohl's to return this, already have a credit note from Amazon - so I got that going for me...

They don't have any of the normal markers of a counterfeit ( missing documentation, miss-spelled words, graphics that smear or are missing)

We have been dealing with a global chip shortage and if I was guessing these have one or two components that should have not passed QA/QC - and instead where classified as: "yah, that should work".

I hadn't even had a chance to plug mine in and try it yet (bought in the big surge with everyone else). I was travelling the week I bought it, so I wasn't even home then have just been slammed with work, rehearsals, and trying to get some amount of sleep. BUT, I had to practice for a bass gig coming up and the first rehearsal was today. So yesterday I broke out the BAM and used it while I ran through a bunch of songs. Carvin LB76 straight into the BAM, then into a Genz STL 12 (with the tweeter currently disconnected by a previous owner). Sounded pretty good and was reasonably loud. Then I plugged it into my 80s Carvin 1x15 loaded with an EVM 15B Pro Series. That was when the thing really took off. It got a LOT louder (and this is at 4 ohms) and sounded better with that particular cab.

Tone-wise, it sounds like a bass amp, and I mean that in a good way. The tone controls are pretty basic but usable. I wasn't really looking for a super tiny bass amp, but for 100 bucks it was too good of a deal to not have a little amp to play with and have as a backup/other option. So hopefully it will work consistently for a long time to come.

Add me to the list of casualties. Mine just filled the room with the smell of burnt electronics and started making the ticking sound of death instead of desirable bass noises. It lasted 26 days and maybe a dozen power cycles.

When I bought mine first time:

Since then, it's still working great, says the current owner ( sold it to a friend almost 1 year after purchase and utilization ), but if I was going to recommend another micro amp to anyone, that would be the Warwick. Besides, I was pretty happy with the BAM200 while it was in my hands, very neutral sounding, no character tonewise, so it's easy to put it along with pratically any bass. Same goes to the Warwick now, with the mention it has better EQ section, while still being clear sounding. I barely touch the EQ section, leave all flat and just deal with the onboard preamp...
