Wow

Re: "to be picked"... Warehouse order filling is called "picking and packing". "Picking" is where the worker takes the order printout and goes to get the items from their slot in the warehouse. "Packing" is where they box up those items for shipment. So "to be picked" means "we have the order on file, but nobody has gone to get the items yet".

GRRRR!!! Check this out: On the AMS site, it now says the order was shipped today--and they are charging me $339.90!!!! I paid with Paypal, and on the Paypal site it only shows an order "pending" for the amount I intended to pay, $45.79. I called AMS, and after being on hold for like 15 minutes, the rep said they were for sure charging me the full amount, and my only option was to refuse the shipment and wait for them to issue me credit.

I should have known, karma's a mutha!

If you have the invoice saying it was $45.79 from AMS (they probably emailed it to you), and you paid with paypal, I would dispute it if they take any more out and you will get your money back (sans $45.79) and keep the speakers.

There was no invoice emailed to me. I got an email last night right after ordering, from Paypal, saying I had authorized a payment for the small amount--but that's just an authorization, not a receipt for payment. Today I got an email from AMS, with an "order confirmation" for the large amount. Again, not an invoice--just an order confirmation.

I dunno, maybe AMS will present Paypal with a bill for the larger amount, and Paypal will say that amount was not authorized, and then it will be up to some overworked nebbish in a Far Eastern call center to decide whether I get charged the larger amount!

I've been with paypal for many years and i'm pretty sure they can't take any money out of your paypal. The only way they can get money is you send them money. They can send a money request but cannot take it. Now a credit card...sure they can charge whatever they want, but not paypal.

I paid with paypal, and I haven't been refunded yet. Will call tomorrow if the money doesn't show. :hmm:

Edit: called and they said it'll take 1-3 days to get my money back. Serves me right. :hmm:

I think this would be right too...they can't take more money out of your paypal account b/c you actually have to SEND the money....they can't charge it to your paypal account. If you paid with Paypal and they shipped them, you might be in luck.

Ehhh... not quite. If you place an order with a retailer, and select payment with Paypal, you are right there agreeing that they can withdraw that amount from your Paypal account, with no further confirmation. I've run an online store, and bought from retailers a few times using Paypal, and that's how it worked for me either way.

Where it gets tricky is exactly as I described above: the amount I authorized them to withdraw from my Paypal account is the smaller amount. So whether they can present a bill for a larger amount and have it paid automatically, is an unknown at this point.

yes they can take out the amount you authorized let say for example one pair 16.95 authorized payment. They can't remove 169.95 from your paypal, only 16.95. They can sent a request but cannot remove. Nevertheless, the lady said they couldn't ship unless i authorized the new price which they were giving it to me for 150 a pair. I said no thanks and canceled. She said ok with no problems.

I got the call/email, so called their credit department this morning. I am thinking because it was a credit card, they maybe couldn't up the amount without talking to me - anyway I gave them a pretty hard time about it, and they referred me back to a customer service rep and gave me 25% discount off any item. So if you call them, tell them you want something to compensate for the incompetence :)
