Here is my RBX 260. My first bass. It has served me well, and IMO, sounds and plays better than nearly anything in that price range.

I've owned and played a Yamaha since the 80's starting with the BB3000 that I wish I still had. Definitely the best basses for the money IMHO.

I put in an order at samash for one of the new BB615 models. The site lists 4/10/05 as the ship date.

Anyone see or play one of the new BB's yet?

Man, I love my Yamaha BBG5S. I almost sold it once. In fact, I did; but it didn't quite work out... (my fault entirely). Anyway, I would kill myself if I sold it now.

I picked it up in late November I think. It was for sale at a local music store. I played it for about 5 minutes and then bought it. Best $250 I've ever spent. Sounded killer through the old Aguilar GS410/DB359. Now I don't own an amp and always play direct. Still sounds freaking amazing. I get compliments on it everywhere I go. The best part is watching everyone's jaw drop when I tell them it was only $250. Man. I don't even want to know how their upper level basses sound/play. I have a feeling it'd be instant GAS.

One last thing... Killer B string.

I think that your question is a fair one. The most common used Yamaha's are not the higher end ones so I think the comparison would not apply that often. I also think that the higher end Yamaha's compare favorably to MIA Fenders and SR5's (I currently play an SR5). Sadowsky Metro's are not that easy for some folks to try out so it might be hard in some instances to make a comparison. One of the best basses I ever had (and sold :crying: ) was an 80's BB5000, all passive with the narrower neck. That bass growled like no other I have ever played, I regret ever selling it. I plan on selling my Bongo4 to buy the newer version of the BB5000, the BB415 or 615.

Not a bit. The Laks and the Yamaha are 35-inch while everything else is 34. The difference in distance between the frets is about a 32nd of an inch. I don't even notice it. I typically switch back and forth between my 55-94 and Jazz FMT between sets. No prob.
