Picked this up last summer. The BX-1, not this one, was my first real bass. I bought it used at a KCMO music store for about $400 in 1988. It was my only bass for years, and while I did not gig much, I loved that bass and played it an awful lot for years. By the mid 90's though, I wasn't playing as much, so it mostly sat in its case. I sold it in '97, along with a lot of my other toys when my wife got pregnant with our first child.
Last summer, i was looking for a second bass, one that sounded different from my BC Rich, and I found this BX-1 on eBay. I was not looking to relive my past, but there it was. It looked to be in not very good shape, but I took a chance. It turned out mostly to be cosmetic, the metal bits all had some funk on them and the nut was broken.

Even the jack area was in good shape, which is usually messed up on other BX-1s I have seen.
I cleaned it up, put strap locks on it, and took it to my guitar guy to replace the nut, install new strings and intonate it. Once I got it home, it was like putting on an old pair of shoes. It just fit. I love the way it sounds, the neck fits my hand perfectly, and the string spacing is exactly what my hands expect.
However, I will probably sell it or trade it in a few months. I have never owned a real Jazz or Musicman, and I would like to see what all of the hoopla is about. I am not looking for a number, but please consider me a fan of Yamaha basses.
