IMO, to get a brighter sound, you would have to consider changing the bridge pickup to one that is splitable and also add a preamp to give you a little boost. I don't know if they would fit, but the Bartolini Quad would be my suggestion here.

That signature bass is simply amazing looking. I'm not usually big on spalted woods, but that one has it going. I also like the inlay on your TRB JPII; never seen that before.
