Ok, here is the best that I can come up with:
Top row closest neck - Bass boost/cut
Tow row closet back - Volume
Bottom row closest neck - boost/preamp level
Bottom row middle - Pickup selector
Bottom row back - Treble boost/cut

That is the best that I can come up with. Hope it helps.

Yeah, it's a very nice bass, and it's the first 6-stringer that I really feel comfortable with. I think it's due to the string spacing. Slapping and popping is really not a problem at all on this one, and same goes for chord play and other stuff I normally do on my 5-er that's tuned E-C. So this may very well be upgraded to the status of "main" bass!

No names for the present... just "the yamaha". However, I do definately understand why it's called the aircraft carrier. I've also got a GrooveTools 7, and it's just slightly wider than this one! :) I had a Cirrus 6 a while ago, and the neck on that one was a lot narrower than the Yamaha, but didn't feel nearly as comfortable to me.

I know what the controls on the front do, I was probably a little unclear in my question. :) The controls are (in your order)
Top row closest neck: Pickup balance
Top row back: Volume
Bottom row front: Bass boost/cut
Bottom row middle: 3-way middle boost/cut presets
Bottom row back: Treble boost/cut

However, inside the control cavity, there are four controls available. There's one for preamp level (where you can control the overall output of the bass to not overload your bass amp, for example). There are, however, three more controls. Two tiny wheels and one "screwdriwer" pot. These are described on the control cover, and are marked EQ1 center, EQ2 center and EQ2 cut/boost. So, I was wondering what these internal controls do and how they affect the pots on the front of the bass. :)

So, specifically, what are EQ1 and EQ2 referring to? Do they offer a means of adjusting the switch button presets, or do they alter the bass or treble controls. :)

Later models have a simpler preamp, I believe, with a "regular" three-band eq with bass/mid/treble boost/cut on the lower row.

Hi there, bassplayer7770!

That's a ultra-nice bass!! I've always liked the BB-basses! If the new Nathan East 6-string had been available as a second-hand steal like the TRB-6, I'd definatley get it! :D However, I'm a hound for older, beat-up basses... that's the best and most affordable way of getting a great bass! :)

I was fortunate to find my BB3000MA bass on closeout for $800 brand new. According to SameDayMusic.com, the retail price was $3,299. It's an incredible bass. The neck has a wonderfully smooth Satin finish, and the pickups sound awesome. I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase.:bassist:

I'll bet those MIJ TRB models are also quite awesome. I should keep my eyes open on eBay...

Wow, that's a very good price!! I just checked a Norwegian online shop, and they sell that bass discounted at $4000... Reduced from a standard price of $4500. So you definately cut a great deal on that one!!!

Yeah, the TRB is a great instrument, and is a candidate for the "main bass" spot. It's been open for a while, as I've had several basses that filled different parts of the role... a main B-G 5er, a main funk bass, a main E-C 5er... but somehow, the TRB-6 seems to fit the bill precisely... in ALL divisions! :D

So I'm really pleased, too... It's strange, though... I tested a Yamaha TRB6P when they first came out (the neck-through piezo model), and it didn't feel right at all. Probably because the price tag was so insane, maybe. But now, nearly 20 years later, it's a 12-13 years old TRB that's turned out to be exactly what I've been looking for! :)

We can agree on one thing... Yamaha makes some incredible basses!

My BB has the best feeling neck I've played on any bass, and that's saying something! I'm also amazed at the great tone coming from the Alnico pickups. The people building Yamaha basses in Japan surely know what they're doing...

Perhaps it needed a good setup? I tried a TRB1005 (Made in Korea) today at my local Guitar Center, but it was setup VERY poorly and WAY out of tune.:rolleyes: I know these basses are excellent values, though.

Yeah, could of course be the case... but this was back in 1988 or something, just after John Patitucci had picked up the TRB as his main bass, and was one of the first that arrived in Norway. It was set up nicely and everything, but it just felt awkward at the time. Maybe I've grown as a bass player... it IS a massive instrument! ;)

Alnico pickups in mine, as well. It's got a great tone and vibe... and it has kept all the other basses in their stand since it arrived a week and a half ago (I know that isn't much, but on the other hand... not many basses have made me feel like this!).

So, I'm a big fan of Yamaha Japan now. And I still blame myself for not picking up one of the early BB5000s... ;)

This is a Yamaha Attitude Custom that I bought several years ago. It has the piezos in the bridge, dual outs, had some other Dimarzio P pup and a Dimarzio X2NB under the pickguard. The neck was shite, frankly, I had to get rid of it and have a custom one built up in Nova Scotia. I replaced the existing pups with Willpower Middle and Neck pups. Unfortunately the replacement neck has had its own issues so I've finally broke down to buy an Attitude II Ltd in seamoss green. It'll be here around the first of April, so I have to sell a bass to pay for it. I'm thinking my Ric 4003/S5 will go.
