I think at one time yellow cars were statistically the least likely to be stolen, all else being equal. The other day I saw a late model BMW SUV in hi viz orange. I could only surmise it was to deter theft, because why else would you take out a mortgage to buy a car and choose that color?
Anyway, teasing aside, I agree it's a lack of demand thing.
Back in the '60's my dad almost got hit by a snowplow when driving his white MG 1300 in the snowy mountains of Washington state. He had it painted traffic cone orange and never had a visibility problem after that. Fugly car, though.
