You know your a true bass player when on patrol seeking bad boys, the police radio volume goes down and the car radio goes up, so you can fully appreciate Les Claypool doing 'War Pigs' by Ozzie...............Or, when anything by Iron Maiden comes on and you have to stop the car and soak it all in!

When did Les Claypool do 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath? :smug:

*When you're agitated because you can't find the vinegar while you are boiling your strings

*When you fall asleep for the 5th night in a row looking at that 8x10 Ampeg cab in the latest edition of Musician's Friend

*Upon entering another band's gig, you immediately feel responsible for communicating with the sound guy in case the bass isn't loud enough after the band starts

*You pick up the index cards once every six months and re-dedicate yourself to learning notes in bass cleff

*You get pissed when you hear some idiot only play root notes in a smash top 40 song

*You think of how much your rig can blow away the neighbor kid's subwoofer system in his Toyota

*You clean your roundwounds with an old toothbrush

*You would feel embarassed if another bass player caught you with a Rogue

Hmm. If I used 5ths, would I be not an idiot any more?

I've done that sometimes, just alternate a couple of notes for stuff like Spice Girls songs (hey, I'm still at school, I'll take any gig I can get :D) but keep it simple. I don't think the teachers would appreciate me going all "Teen Town" on their arrangements. :D :bassist:

Not at all. I'm talking about when there's a a popular song on the radio and the recorded bassist hits three or four notes during the whole song (and gets paid big money). I find it annoying! And the rest of us toil to eek out creative lines, mostly for free!

Local radio here announced last year a set of Ozzie or Sabbath songs including the collaboration of the old recordings with Claypool on bass. They included, if memory serves me, War Pigs, Crazy Train and Sweet Leaf. I still hear them on the radio nightly with the unique Claypool tone and they are much improved.

Eh, I was being sarcastic.

They are all Black Sabbath songs (no crazy train), Claypool and Ozzy did NIB.

You know you're a bassist when.........

-you're the only person you know who's fast-forwarded "Stairway to Heaven" to when JPJ's bass kicks in.......but you've nevertheless arranged his piano parts for bass

-you can't say the words "Mark Hoppus is a creative musician" without breaking into laughter mid sentence.

-you're the only person in you're group of friends who can name a member of either Weather Report or the Flecktones.

-you're the only member of your band who knows the output volume control actually turns anti-clockwise

-you pay way too much for a Victor Wooten recording than you would for any other CD/DVD

-when watching a Joe Satriani/Steve Vai DVD, you're the only one watching Stu Hamm
