You might be a Californian if...........?

If..... you have to pay for paper bags at the grocery store. That's why we bring our own. Varies by county.

Also- do they play those advertisements for California out of state? It's like a tourism bureau thing where they go over CA stereotypes. I've never understood that. I live here. I cannot possibly be their target demographic. I think the Governator is in it, maybe some celebrities.

The one where they're all driving convertibles, playing guitar at the beach and making wine? I saw that one and I was like "How stereotypical, that's not fair, California's is not really all like that." And then I realized I do all of those things. Damn it...

I think it's more that on Thursday at 3am, 20 miles will take 20 minutes but during rush hour, that same 20 miles will take an hour.

Extremely generous.

At my current law internship, Wilshire and the 405, it's 9.2 miles home to the valley and takes me am hour.

When I was teaching chess just south of downtown, it took me 2 hours and ten minutes at rush hour to go 25 miles to the valley.

The is what i hate the most about living here. It's enough that I would move, but all our family is here so I'm stuck.

You might be a San Franciscan if your 5-year-old grandson wants calamari and pad thai for dinner. Your father-in-law refers to you as the "white sheep of the family." you have to wear a coat to the beach in July, the rent on your storage unit costs more than a penthouse in Las Vegas, you think traffic lights are only for people in cars, unless you are in a car then you can ignore them too. The streetcar you rode to work is more than 50-years-old. You have ever had to put a brick in your toilet because of water rationing. Your whole house could fit inside of the average suburban garage. You can hear your neighbors arguing next door but you can't get any gossip because they are speaking French. You are offended if someone honks at you. Your neighborhood looks like a session at the United Nations. You have climbed up the inside of the Statue of Liberty but have never been to Alcatraz. You walk to the grocery store.

Too bad the non-SFers can't realize how funny this really is ...

because it is soooooooooooo true.

(especially the bit about being offended by someone honking at you, especially when you deserved it)

southern Californians would curl up into the fetal position and suck their thumbs, crying, if they had to deal with the natives of the far north of the state.

Far Nor Cal, is trying to get rid of the pot smoking. The most popular car is a full size pickup. Eco friendly hybrid vehicles are a source of humor. Many of us have guns...lots of them. Many of us live in the mountains, and snow does not bother us. We eat meat, and thing "vegetarian" is the ancient Indian name for bad hunter.

With a few notable exceptions, such as Palm Springs, heading inland in Southern California you suddenly feel as if you were in Oklahoma: pickup trucks with republican stickers on them, moustaches, white people working at the fast food joints, etc...

Yup, anyone who thinks all californians are the same is in for a big suprise if they come here. People in a small town near Susanville (Northeast California) made it clear that we were not welcome for a reason that no one would think twice around here. The farmers in the central valley probably think us city dwellers are all nuts. :p There is also quite a difference between the L.A. culture and the S.F. culture. Not saying either one is good or bad but we are different.

But we can all agree that Mexican food kicks @$$!

Yep. That's the one. Does anyone see this ad outside California? It just makes no sense to show it here. I live here already damnit!

go farther North, and people in frisco are grouped right in with the L.A. mess as all part of Southern CA. personally, I am happy with drawing the line for Southern CA at Cottonwood Creek (About 120 miles north of Sacramento). it is completely different, up here.

Hey man, you're scaring me. I've always wanted to see the Redwoods and the Sequoias again (haven't been since I was 9) but you're making your neck of the woods sound like Appalachia. :D

My bro-in-law is a long time resident of Redding, and he fits your description EXACTLY. On a number of social and political topics, he and I are pretty much polar opposite.

(On a side note, my bro-in-law's ex-wife is Dolores Lucero who was recalled from the Shasta Lake City Council and arrested on two felony counts connected with voter fraud.)

I haven't seen it, but I live in Florida. I guess that the California Department of Tourism realizes they can't really lure people away from Florida. We're like better California.

you just keep thinking that...;)

I have set on the upper deck of Mangos Bar in South Beach and watched the sun come up, and passed out on the beach, next to my bike, during Datona bike week. I have had my fun in Florida, but I always come back to CA

the far north state is a very conservative area. But you have to realize that Redding was built on logging and cattle industries. There are still those, here, who think you are a hippy if you do not wear boots.

I followed the Delores Lucero issue, because my mom has rental properties, in Shasta Lake City.
