Your favorite flats for a jazz?

I’m not a full-time flats guy so I tend to lean towards lower tension flats in general.

On most basses I’m very happy with Ernie Ball Group IV stainless flats but I like TI flats on the Jazz. To me, the more mid-forward sound of TIs compliments a Jazz bass really well.
How’s the feel on the Group IV’s? I tried the EB Cobalts and couldn’t stand how grabby and rough they were.

They feel fine to me. Maybe not quite as smooth as the TIs but plenty smooth and the tension of the Group IV set is about equivalent to a typical 45-105 set of rounds (or, at least, that’s how they feel to me). The tension was what drew me to the EB Group IVs in the first place around 15 years ago. Other flats just felt like bridge cables to me.

EB Group flats (stainless steel) feel more like traditional flats - very smooth (after thorough cleaning with an alcohol wipe before installation). I like the overall playing feel of the Group IV (40-95) as they're very comfortable without being loose and floppy.

It's TI Jazz Flats for me. The only thing I don't like about them is the price for TI's are higher than most others. But when you consider that flats can last for years the higher cost becomes trivial in the long run.

I like that they are flexible since that encourages me to play with a lighter touch. I have a tendency to dig-in more when playing higher tension strings, especially rounds. Not sure why that is but it's something I need to work on.

Modern day speech infliction, giving an answer in question form................"TI flats for a J Bass?"

‘I’m a no time flats guy, but still want to know what is out there. So I always appreciate these threads.

Accordion Accessory JF344. Fluked price at 57 the other day. I succumbed since Dunlop flats are now going at 59. @Killing Floor Floor would give you a thumbs up if you do and that's a good thing.

The price is still 57 but arrival date is after Dec 25 which is fine. I got another set. The EB Cobalts do not sound good anymore on my Jazz bass special and also feel weird and it's just a year or so on the bass. My rounds are there longer. Plus on the 5 string modded Squire, even with the utmost care the B and G got farked on re-installation when I took them off do some fret adjusting - I just installed them in the summer. I had some old TI's (first when into service 2014 and I took them off from a bass I got here in 2021). I never liked them but somehow they are awesome on this bass. I have to eat my socks now because I said I'll never use them again.
