Your favorite light amp

Loud doesn't always mean good.
What's the general tone like off a Markbass? heard a lot about them but have never had the chance to encounter or play through one.

Deep, dark and delicious? or tinny, punchy, head-ache inducing, over-mids like lower-end Fender and Ampeg amps?

No no no....mark bass amps are quality sounding and very good.....clear rich and articulate.....very good SA450, LMII

However I believe there are new amps with better sounds with more heft...3 dimentional sound...kick...that I am counting on
Choices...Reiner....mesa Subway....or Genzler magellan......very excited.....But no criticism of mark Bass

Markbass is a tad more expensive than similar amps......I imagine you get what you pay for.
If I get a chance to test drive one I'm going to....

I used to have the Markbass 2x10 combo and sold it within 4 months of owning. Hard to say if it was the amp because the combo did not let you turn the tweeter off which drove me nuts depending on the style of music for the gig. Also, every time I walk into Guitar Center the Markbass amps are always broken or having issues. People treat the gear there like crap but I view it as a decent reflection of how they would handle being on the road for half the year.

MarkBass CMD102 with the 2x10 cab- so 4x10 500W sounds incredible , I can get many different sounds from just the knobs on the amp. Best of all i can carry them easily with one hand. I play mine every night and travel with it at least twice a week. I've had this set up for about 6 months and it has never missed a beat. Pun intended :D I dont miss the SVT ,and truth be told , I cant think of but handfull of times that I ever really got to use the power from the SVT to its full potential, so basically I have 2 bad shoulders to this day from carry that heavy stuff around only to get to use it fully just a few times in 30+ years

I have read previous posts about this but figured I would get an updated opinion. After years of saying lifting an Ampeg SVT-CL is no big deal I finally blew my back lifting it while twisting. This is the first time I will consider leaving the tubes at home and bring a smaller/lighter solid state.

Well,
The SVT and the new Ampeg PF 500 and PF 800 have a lot in common especially their Pre Amps. With the midrange selector and Ultra High and Ultra Low switches. The new Mesa Subway D800 is also getting rave reviews.

They're all slightly different. The old/discontinued F1/F500 amps sounded very solid state with a ton of "slam". Incredible sound. My "Big Bang" has the bottom end of the F1 and a top end that sounds like tubes, which I did NOT expect as there's no tubes anywhere in that amp. Superb. Sounds like my old SM-220 SWR but a touch smoother. What an amp! If you play fretless there might not be a better one, and that's high praise coming from me.

No opinion on the LMII/III amps because I haven't played them enough.

Also, FWIW, not at all impressed with the Markbass cabinets. Love the weight. Hate the sound. But the heads sound fantastic through any decent cab.

Has anyone switched from an all tube amp and found a smaller SS amp that made them not miss the all tube sound?

Years ago I moved from a Ampeg B-15N(C) to a Walter Woods MI-100-8. It sounded better than the B-15, at a quarter of the weight, had 4x's the
RMS power, and better a EQ section with Bass and Treble 10 DB three way cut, flat, and boost switches and ultra sensitive bass, midrange, and treble controls. I sold that amp after I bought the Walter Woods MI-400-8. Same great EQ 4x's the power of the MI-100-8, at 9 lbs. So each incarntion of Walter's amps surpassed the B-15 4 times. Just my take. All the Woods amps are rated into an 8 ohm load.
