Your favorite light amp

I have read previous posts about this but figured I would get an updated opinion. After years of saying lifting an Ampeg SVT-CL is no big deal I finally blew my back lifting it while twisting. This is the first time I will consider leaving the tubes at home and bring a smaller/lighter solid state. The only tube amp I am keeping in the conversation is the Mesa Prodigy because of how light it is for an all tube. But it may lack the booty I'm used to. Let me know what you guys like and why.
About four months ago, i scored an Ampeg PF-800 for Ridiculously Cheap from a Craig's List seller. Figured i could resell it if it didn't live up to my "Made In USA Ampeg Snob" tastes... and this 12 lbs. head sounds fantastic.

I don't know why everyone is obsessed with made in the USA thing since we don't do a great job manufacturing most products in the first place. I have had plenty of USA amps break.

Probably because they're concerned about supporting their economy, instead of shipping all the jobs overseas.

If I owned a company in the US that required production I would only do it overseas. Americans are not trained to do things like assemble cell phones for example. Plus our minimum wage is higher which would cut into profits.

Having owned an old guitar Peavey amp of late 80's I'd prefer a US made amp if I could choose, who knows who makes. I admit I may be snob.
I've owned Markbass only in bass gear and fancy their downsizing approach, they're not the pioneers as before the Trademark series dared to combine 10" speaker with 100W, but they devlopped the concept with combining a 12" speaker and 280w in a small 1ft cube capable of 450w with an extention. They gained on weight loosing one third for the combo, two third for the head, light is right.
They've finally worked the sound shape with specific filters brought a decade ago, can't imagine a bass tonestack without a VPF and VLE.

I admire and respect what Markbass has accomplished, and think their amps are very well designed, I tried both the Little Mark III and the Big Bang with my Lakland 55-94, my 1958 Fender Precision Bass, and my Mirecourt French Double Bass. I liked the EQ, Power, and Form Factor of both amps, the Big Bang was my favorite of the two. If I were to buy one of their current amps, I'd go with the Big Bang. If they ever build a two channel amp like the LMK again, I'd be very interested.

I am looking to pair a Markbass 115hr cab with a light amp head. My 65 yo back can't handle tube tops anymore. Another TBer rec the Ampeg pf800. I just found a used one at a GC for 370. I play a 63 p bass, treble almost off, all
bass. Any thoughts. The Markbass is a 15 I picked up for 270 at a GC clearance. 400 into 8.
Thanks in advance

$370 for a used PF800? Grab it. And No Treble shouldn't be an issue with it either :)

Rick,
Thanks much for the quick reply. Ordering it now. Have to pay another couple of bucks to ship it to Boston store , but seems like a great deal. Any additional thoughts?

Tecamp Puma 900.
Can't get much lighter, and it's a great amp.

Before that it was a Shuttle 9.0, before the Shuttle was an Eden WT-400. The Eden is a lead sled by comparison, but it was a fly weight when I got it.

I've got a MiniMega on order, it will be interesting to see how it fits in.
