Your Favorite TV theme song.

I posted Night Court as an obvious answer but I actually think Hill Street Blues had the best theme song. That was one of the first modern cop dramas that dealt with incongruities in characters and their behavior (the good guys did bad things sometimes and the bad guys were easy to root for).

The theme itself is sad and introspective, which was a new thing for a cop drama in the 80s.

As a kid I loved watching reruns of McHale's Navy. To this day the chromatic counter-melody in the theme song (played--I think--on baritone horn) is burned into my brain cells, and may be what later attracted me to bass guitar.

I never noticed that!

Yes, that's one of the best themes I've ever heard. Phenomenal composition, unforgettable with that melancholic vibe. A real classic.
