My "ideal collection" would largely made of up of variations (much nicer versions) of basses I've already owned but sold or traded and later regretted not having:

1) MTD 535 with wenge neck, myrtle burl top with matching headstock, finished in tealburst
2) Wal 5 with natural olive ash facings and ebony fretboard...maybe a fretted and fretless pair
3) Curbow carved-top Petite 6 with rosewood top and hollow tone chambers
4) Elrick 6 single-cutaway set-neck semi-hollow with buckeye burl top
5) Steinberger L-2
6) Rickenbacker 4001 Chris Squire Signature
7) David King headless 5 with wenge neck (I've still got this one...)
8) EVD acoustic bass guitar (ditto)

plus a some I've never owned but always wanted to:

9) '62 Fender Jazz, stripped down to natural
10) Spector NS-4P with figured walnut sides
11) Old Warwick Dolphin with Barts and "platinum" hardware
12) Fodera Emperor II 5 string with chestnut top and maple fretboard
13) F-bass Alain Caron fretless 6
14) Alembic Series 1 medium-scale Omega body with graphite neck
15) HG Leach fretless archtop acoustic bass
16) Steinberger electric upright

Guess I'd better start saving...

Wow, compared to you guys, I don't have much of an imagination.

1. Yamaha RBX260F, with TI/Jazz Flats - have it
2. Fender Jazz - saving up for it now
3. Fender Precision, with flatwounds - I'll get it eventually
4. Fretless Fender Jazz, with roundwounds - I'll get it eventually

I can't think of anything else I'd ever really need, although I'd also like a Rickenbacker 4001, just to have.

Fodera Emperor 5 Elite, Flame top, Alder body (got it)

MTD 535 Maple Burl Top, Ash body Wenge/Wenge neck (got it)

Englehardt upright (got it)

Elrick 5 w/alder or ash body with one of his great
exotic tops. Man he has some great looking tops on
his basses!! Gunna git this one....

Basses:
My ESP-5
Warwick Thumb-5 NT
Warwick Thumb-5 NT Fretless
Music Man StingRay-5
Zon-5 Fretless
some kinda double bass

and just for a little variety I'd love to have a Gibson - Les Paul HB guitar. Can't just play bass all the time IMHO, and Les Pauls are the kewlest guitars ever!

My ideal collection is the group of basses that I have now. Someone mentioned that everyone was posting a bunch of basses with no common theme. I find that fact that all my basses were based on the Fender design relates them to one another.
Vintage Fender P
Vintage Fender J
MM Stingray 5
Lakland deluxe 5
Lakland deluxe fretless 5
There are two basses I would like to add. One is the new Lakland with the soapbar pickups (Jerry Sheff model). I played one at Lakland and found it to have really Killer tone. Second would be a Fodera Emporer Deluxe 5. I know, not Fender related, but such a beautiful looking instrument.
