Your last three basses ...

My last one was an ebony Gibson T Bird, beautiful bass, was probably the most perfectly made and perfectly set up bass I've ever bought, not sure of the second and third although I've added a 66 EB-2, and a 65 EB-3 which is another really cool bass, Fender Tony Franklin Fretless that I'm playing a lot lately. 62RI Jazz, take your pick although I think the Gibsons were 2 and 3.

3) '83 Guild X-702, a bass that I've wanted for quite some time. Unique looks, stunning sound, not the easiest instrument to play from an ergonomic standpoint - especially while seated which is the only way for me nowadays - but well worth the effort and then some IMO.

Here she is, the silly duckling:

My first “real” guitar was a Guild X-79. Got it from Manny’s Music on clearance for like $149 in 1986 or ‘87. Almost the same crazy shape, jet black, set neck, traditional 3x3 headstock (not like the one on that bass) real nice playing. I think my brother still has it, but the neck got warped at some point and it is now un-playable.
It was exactly like this one:
Guild X-79 Skyhawk 1981 Black | More Music

Notice the broken/repaired pickguard at the end at the jack. That happens when you are sitting and accidentally stand up while your foot is on the cable...

My last 3 basses have been a Lakland 55-01. Bought on a whim and sold 1 week later because it was too heavy. Next was a Mike Lull M5V Jazz. Fantastic instrument, light with a fat, punchy sound from the 18v Aguilar pre amp. Only sold because I bought my current bass, a Sadowsky RV5 Jazz. 3 years later, this is still the one. I've stopped looking.

Last 3 basses.

MIJ Fender Paisley P-bass. Spotted it a few days before New Year, was picking the brain of my good brother Rick Wilson (@moonshinegtrs ) regarding last bass #2 at the time. "Buy it" he said, music to my ears :)

Last bass #2 was a pine slab body I always fancied building. Got the body cut last week at work in December, was playing it 3pm Ne'er Day. Went too heavy with the stain so it's between tung oil coats this afternoon.

Last bass #3 came end of May. Been lusting after a Vigier Arpege since I saw photos in a BMF report 83/84. Thought I'd scratched the itch with the Vigier Passion but who cares about "thought" A 1985 model with separate passive/active circuits (and separate outputs),Patrice-V also went with brass under the fingerboard instead of his usual carbon neck.

Cool thing about this "Last 3 " thread is these 3 will likely be my last 3.

My last three basses are some of the best I've ever owned and that's after selling and trading for over 20 years.

I haven't had a P or J for a while so I wanted to get some again as the base for my tone choices. The third and most recent is something I've been waiting and saving up for for a long time. I didn't order it but waited until I found the right combination of woods and features.

1. 2018 Fender '60 Custom Shop Jazz Bass, Olympic White
2. 1990 Fender '62 Reissue Precision MIJ, Sunburst
3. 2016 Fodera Imperial Elite MG 5, Redwood Burl top

Hi, sorry to resurrect an old comment, I was doing a search for the GB74jh and found your post. I’m thinking of buying one and looking for opinions…?

I sold that GB74JH because I used it for drop D tuning for a guy in the band who eventually left.

I now have a GB75JH and find it to be excellent. Those basses are a great value for the money. I doubt you will be disappointed.

on Talkbass this question might be as important as the first three...

mine:

Ibanez SRX 700, just a really good bass, have it for a couple of years now. had steve swallow sign the cover of the electronic cavity. this one will stay.

Ibanez SR 400 fretless, don't play it much

Yesterday: Ibanez SRX 505, again really nice. plan is to convert it to a six string with tight spacing (then there will be a NBD)

How about you?
Squier Classic Vibe 70's P-Bass-Black-2020
Squier Affinity Jazz-Brown Sunburst-2020
Fender American Pro II P-Bass-Olympic White-MN-2021

2020 Sadowsky Satin NYC that I special ordered.

I then heavily modified my Schecter Deservio with a paint job and Sadowsky preamp. Spent a boatload of money on it, but well worth it. I think that counts.

Then I purchased. 2021 Yamaha BB 435 for a 5 string itch. Glad I did, very nice bass.

That was all purchased in a 1.5 year timespan, so now I’m done for a while.

I sold and traded more than adding to my collection.
Last three...
G&L L2000 Tribute which I decided to trade for a Peavey Dynabass with Kahler bridge- Loved both but you don't often see a Dynabass (especially with that bridge) in my neck of the woods too often.

The other bass is a 1998 US Fender P bass.

Curiously, the last 3 and the first 3 are the same 3 :D (Intentionally left out the POS I started on).

G&L El Toro, MiM Fender J Bass, .strandberg original 5.
