That's one of the joys of baseball. I have something to look forward to every spring.
Cheap. Giants in the world series is degrading to the sport. They never would've made it in the first place. Go by stats baseball is a stat sport. See for yourselves. Melky rbi's directly impact 10 wins.

If Melky had so much of an impact, why did the Giants do better after his suspension?
Why did the Dodgers do worse after dropping the GDP of a European nation on the Red Sox cast offs?
True i recognize that but subtract those ten wins & giants would be out of the playoff picture to begin with. Whatever. Like I admitted just sour grapes discussion

Tigers came out cold, just as some of us predicted. Verlander has bad games sometimes. Every pitcher does. It's also harder for an American League team to play by National League rules rather than the opposite. Pitchers don't bat but now they have to. The good thing about the Tigers is that there's always another ace that'll pitch the next day......hopefully. GO TIGERS!
Yes and no. I agree that Cabrera was a disgrace (and as a Giants fan his positive test was absolutely deflating) but is it fair to hold an organization accountable for a player deciding to dope? I don't know what the answer is.
And Melky's RBIs didn't help Zito pitch a great game, or aid Lincecum in being a strikeout machine in relief or help Sandoval belt three home runs against the best pitcher in baseball.
I'm glad Melky was caught, I'm glad he's off the team and I'm glad to be rooting for a gutty, gritty team like the Giants in the World Series.
It was a great win but it is just one game we have a lot more to go. Maybe the Tigers were cold and the rules are different for them but they are a great team and didn't hand it to the Giants. The Giants had to show up and play great ball to beat a team with the arms and bats the Tigers have. Tonight is another game, I'm hoping Baumgarner has it tonight. If not it could be tough for the Giants.

Am I the only one who is getting sick of the bias by Fox Sports and ESPN?
I am not taking anything away from Verlander. He is a beast, and I fully expect him to walk away the AL Cy Young this year. He's easilly one of the best pitchers, if not THE best, currently active in baseball. He's a first-ballot, hall-of-famer, and a total class act.
That being said, the Giants didn't just get lucky. The Tigers got beat by the Giants, plain and simple. Panda looked comfrotable during his at bats. He wasn't swinging randomly. He read those pitches and crushed them.
The rest of the batters fought long and hard against all of Detroit's pitching staff. Like during the regular season, the Giants got offensive help from the entire line-up. Zito and Lincecum had great outings.
I know it is only Game 1, and we still have to win 3 more, however the tone of the Sports Media was that the Tigers have the ring in the bag. Apparently, the Giants didn't get that message.

Honestly, who would have thought 2 or 3 months ago that Zito, Lincecum and Sandoval would be the heroes of game 1 of the World Series?

Hey, I'm not taking anything away from the Giants. They're hot right now. They're coming off the high of beating the Cards in landslide fashion and have taken that momentum into this series. Like I said before in this thread, it's not who you play but when you play them. I didn't want to see you beat the Cardinals the way you did. You're hot and we're cold. That doesn't add up to well in the World Series. Hopefully Fister can come out like he has so far in the post-season. At least Sanchez pitched on a National League team (Marlins) earlier this season so he may be able to get some base hits. It's really a whole different game going from one league to the next. National League rules require more thinking and strategy as does when to pull a starter from the mound. American League play is more straight forward. You pinch hit when you need an advantage against a pitcher and switch a pitcher when your starter's getting tired or you need an advantage over a batter.
Either or, the Giants are a good team and are looking to repeat as WS Champs. The Tigers, however, are a good team too but just need to put some hits together to get men around the bases and also need to get Valverde's head out of wherever it's at. Benoit looked better in his outing and Albuquerque looked really good after he relieved Verlander. We'll see what happens tonight. If I was there or you were here the beer would be on me, that is if you drank beer at all. If not, milk's on me.
