Mine has a smoother less pronounced attack than he maple/maple neck it replaced and the notes are very warm and creamy not sharp or boomy. I doubt its related to the wood selection but this neck has no dead spots. He real joy however, is how fast and smooth the neck feels. How is the sound of a rosewood neck?
I really like the jazz neck's width and thickness--but I've been in love with the '51 p-bass headstock shape. Can somebody make me one of those?!
I've always had a rosewood fingerboard on my basses--I'd like one with a maple board at some point.
The old style chunky P-bass neck. 1.75" nut with a maple fretboard. I've learned to accept the 1.625" nut on more recent P's, but still love those big old necks.
Does the Steve Harris have the 1.76" neck. Now THAT I'd like to try. I actually think fat necks are easier to play on.
Look into Warmoth. You can mix and match neck dimensions and headstocks. Your desired combination might be possible.I really like the jazz neck's width and thickness--but I've been in love with the '51 p-bass headstock shape. Can somebody make me one of those?!

I had one of those for a couple of weeks before returning it. The neck feels great and is very stable but mine had a bumpy neck.View attachment 727611

Wenge #1
Ovangkol #2
Bubinga stringers in both. Frets or Fretless. Not a huge fan of painted or glossed necks. Natural finish preferred. Love the African hardwoods for my bassesSound, feel, look, durability...can't go wrong with African hardwoods
The neck on my Thumb NT is perfection in my opinion. Can't wait for the wenge neck in my Ibanez SR1200, that will be at my doorstep next Tuesday
I'm also SUPER stoked on the Ovangkol top and it's figuring. I feel I got really lucky with that grain pattern. Couldn't find another that had that much stripping...even in Ibanez's own promo pics for the 1200. Stoked!
