Your prettiest bass

This one ranks right up there for me.

‘My’ upright is technically not mine, though it’s been in my studio for 11 of the past 12 years. But it’s an upright that has minimal visible issues, so it’s gorgeous. Then there’s my Tobias KillerB 6 which is beautiful.

I don’t go in for cosmetics too much beyond a bass not looking hideous. But I do have two that have covergirl looks:

A DiAngelico Excel

And a Willcox Lightwave Saber VL (That’s my younger sister getting her first fretless lesson from yours truly. She’s an genuine natural at it! Amazingly good intonation in just the first 5 minutes. Even gets ”the look” and the stance right out of the gate. But she was born a rockstar so I’m hardly surprised.)

Most of what I own looks more like this. Functional, working bass player, utilitarian looks like my Spector

This is such an odd thread because beauty is so subjective. I love this thing, partly because I refinished it myself and partly because every time I look at it, it makes me smile -

Others will scoff at it.

I also think this thing looks beautiful -

And I have an attraction to this thing that I'm still building -

So it's hard for me to pick just one.

I had this built by Bruce Wei Arts in Vietnam a couple of months ago for $825 shipped to Los Angeles. I saw his tenor uke in the style and asked if he could make it as 23" scale bass uke. It came out great, but he doesn't do electronics, so I had my guy Eric's Guitar in Van Nuys, CA install a preamp and pickup I had for $180. Added Kala/Galli flatwound nylon core strings.
