Your Retirement Dream Bass?

Any Precision bass that is set up properly and with the neck dimensions you prefer. I gig 100+ times a year. All on a P. Nothing sounds better in a live mix to my ears.

That’s my conclusion too.
I own two different jazz basses that I really love and they sound so sweet when played alone in my basement but my precisions work just perfect with other band mates.

I own an Alien Audio P/P that is a scant 7.7 lbs with perfect balance. Does P-Bass better than a P-Bass IMO. Worth a look.

I’m retiring after 42 years in 30 days.
To mark the occasion, I’m looking at finding my “dream” bass. I will be pretty much debt free and have a substantial amount to spend. Other than a museum piece, I can pretty much get what I want for the first time ever.
I play mostly country/swamp rock/blues rock and also play at church on Sundays.
In recent years, my tastes have run to the P or P/J sound and light weight and playability are huge factors.
What would you get for, say, under $8k?

If I'm still kicking enough I would put a 5 string with fanned frets on the bucket list.

I'll probably doze off, looking at my forever bass in the corner, laughing at my youthful stupidities, with a tidy little Fender Mustang in my hands.

I get it. I have a GREAT playing and sounding P right now. It is an Aztec Gold Fender Mod Shop.
It’s just a smidge weighty on me for 3 hours in a night!

25 years ago (in the infancy of my career), my dream $8k "retirement" bass would have been an Alembic Series II. Even today, I think my dream retirement bass would still be an Alembic Series II, except it wouldn't cost $8k. Give me another 20yrs and I can't even imagine what that Alembic Series II might cost.

I should've bought it 25 years ago and held onto it for 45yrs till retirement.

First, realistically describe your retirement.

When I retired, we became full-time RVers. I carry a bass amp, and cab in the RV. We travel, spoil grandchildren, and I occasionally play music with others.

Before I retired, I thought of retirement in terms of my woodworking shop, my music room, building furniture, cabinets, and musical instruments, and working on projects around the house with my wife.

Life can be unpredictable.

First of congratulations on your retirement! As someone who has a lot of basses and some pretty expensive ones, I would encourage you to combine your search with some cool vacation trips while on your search.
Also, some of the basses that I play the most are not necessarily the more expensive ones.
