Zeitgeist - Have yu watched it yet?

The unfortunate thing is that this film is not backed up by any research or sources.

Like the Bible?

;)

I think anyone that considers themselves a Christian should watch it.

Believing everything you were told by your parents (and most of us adopt the religions of our parents) without question is at best foolhardy. They were, after all, not entirely right about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy...although they were probably nice enough to retract those assertions at some point.

I think the movie presents an important alternate viewpoint.

You can still choose to believe what you wish...but isn't it best to know both sides before deciding?

The unfortunate thing is that this film is not backed up by any research or sources. To many people watch it and believe it without delving deeper into what it says. Although personally, i wouldn't mind if all the stuff about religion was true....

When you say it like that, it sounds as though they just forgot to state their sources. The reality is that they completely fabricated everything they said for the purpose of making a particular group of people look like idiots, liars, and megalomaniacs. It's essentially slander and vilification passed off as fact.

I'm not having a go at you. I just think it's too easy to say that the film is just 'not backed up by research'. I think it's a bit more serious than that.

No but I really enjoy the smashing pumpkins album with that title.

Kevin, I think I may have sent you a link to this movie at one time. You of all people should watch it. I know you are on a bit of a spiritual quest, and there's stuff in the film's first part you really should see.

In the end, I know you'll make up your own mind, and I'm not out to sway you...just to show you some other info I think might be beneficial to have awareness of.

I highly recommend the film.

Most of my Christian friends have atheist parents. They exercise critical thinking just like everyone else. I don't want to make this about religion so I'm going to be careful about what I say.

The problem is that the 'alternate viewpoint' presented by the film is based on lies. It's not presenting you with an alternative way of looking at religion by examining what we know to be true, but by making up stories and lies and passing them off as fact. It does so by fabricating every claim that it makes. It flat out lies from the opening scene. Do some research on any of the claims they make in Part 1 and you'll understand what I mean. They aren't presenting the 'other side' of the story, they are creating their own story that's not based on anything factual.

I suppose I could liken the film to me creating a documentary on the history of the US, and saying that the country was founded in the year 1776AD by pirates from Venus who came to earth in search of kryptonite to defeat the evil dolphin leader Xerox. It's just utter rubbish.

The real irony is that the film really strikes a chord with atheists - the same people who claim that science and facts should be the basis for belief. I guess some people are super eager to support whatever coincides with their beliefs.

wow! no idea how much of this is true, but it was the best conspiracy theory movie i've ever seen. fire up the bong and get the tin foil hats out...this is pure gold!

you have to watch the whole thing...incredible...i've got chills going up my spine...if it's fiction, it's awesome fiction. if it's true, run for the hills! some of the most chilling footage are some of the quotes by our founding fathers regarding the central bank.

friggin great entertainment!!!

Bold claims.

Provide examples, proof. Show your work.

If you're going to call something lies, be prepared to back it up.

P.S. Please don't quote Bible verse as "proof".

Well, I will say this much about the "conspiracy" parts of this movie:

1) Link Removed
Building in Sao Paulo struck by jet crash, yet no steel melted, no concrete failed. Had to be imploded sometime later to demolish it.

2) Building 7 WTC, UNTOUCHED by anything (across the street, actually), yet seems to have imploded "by its ownself" sometime later...hmmm.

Guess my tinfoil hat is a little snug today...

:hiding:

Oh, BTW...the single bullet theory? Totally believable.

indeed! part I was cool, be it all true or not. but parts II and III were chilling!

if you're touchy about the whole religion thing, just skip part I and watch the rest. i'd spend time investigating those facts!

You are obviously too lazy to search for yourself, so I'll humour you for the moment.

Off the top of my head:

1. The film starts by claiming that the story of Christ is essentially the same as the story of approximately 30 other religious figures. It makes specific reference to alleged parallels between the story of Christ and the story of the Egyptian god 'Horus'. However, the story of Horus in no way parallels that of Christ. Horus was not born of a virgin (his mother had intercourse with a dismembered penis), was not born on the 25th of December, did not have 12 disciples, did not become a teacher at age 12, did not walk on water, did not get baptised when he was 30, did not got into hiding until he was 30, and he was not crucified. The film claims that all of those things happened according to Egyptian mythology. In reality, NONE of those things are even mentioned in the story of Horus according to Egyptian mythology. There are many more inaccuracies pertaining to the story of Horus, but I can't be bothered explaining them all. See here: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/h/horus.html and here Link Removed and here Link Removed

2. The film claims that Horus, Jesus, and approximately 30 other religious figures are claimed to have been born on the 25th of December. This appears to be a key point in the argument because the film makers claim that all the stories share the same details, including the birth date. In reality, none of them were or ever claimed to be born on the 25th. It is thought by most scholars that Jesus was born around the spring time, while the birth of Horus was supposedly on the last day of the Egyptian month of Khoiak, around the 15th of November.

3. The film claims that Jesus the person never existed, despite literary evidence to the contrary. The following was taken from wikipedia:

Michael Grant stated (in 1977) that the view is derived from a lack of application of historical methods:

…if we apply to the New Testament, as we should, the same sort of criteria as we should apply to other ancient writings containing historical material, we can no more reject Jesus' existence than we can reject the existence of a mass of pagan personages whose reality as historical figures is never questioned. ... To sum up, modern critical methods fail to support the Christ myth theory. It has 'again and again been answered and annihilated by first rank scholars.' In recent years, 'no serious scholar has ventured to postulate the non historicity of Jesus' or at any rate very few, and they have not succeeded in disposing of the much stronger, indeed very abundant, evidence to the contrary.[75]

The main sources of information regarding Jesus' life and teachings are the gospels. Most scholars in the fields of history and biblical studies agree that Jesus was a Galilean Jew, was regarded as a teacher and healer, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on orders of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate, on the charge of sedition against the Roman Empire.[5][6] Most critical scholars believe that ancient texts on Jesus' life are at least partially accurate[7] [8]

Whether you believe that He was God incarnate or not, the reality is that He did exist as a a person. Even the critics concede that. The film, however, ignored the work of hundreds of scholars and historians and the vast majority of knowledgeable critics and intellectuals and wrote him off as a myth, without providing any evidence or backing up the claim.

There are countless more inaccuracies, a large number to do with the Mithra/Jesus parallel.

I'm not going to go into more detail because it's late. You know why the film makers didn't back up any of their idiotic claims? Because they can't. Why don't you do a little research yourself rather than believing what you are told to believe. You'd be surprised at how inaccurate the film is.
