Zon

There is a zon fiver with soapbars at a local guitar shop. I tried to resist playing it for while. I wasn't able to fight the urge any longer. I have been playing on it everytime I go in there. It is hard to believe that a 34" scale fiver could be so tight and focused. I have long skinny digits and this seems so easy to play. I can only describe it as butter. I am soooooo temped to walk in there with my Modulus walnut Q5 and p bass and put them up for trade. I am tying really hard to resist. That would leave me with only one bass. Not that that's a horrible thing, but I like to have a four banger around when I need one. What should I do?

Easy, keep the P, buy the Zon, be happy. :)

I'm going to see what I can get for trade in value for the Modulus. The owner of the guitar company gives fair market value so long as it's for trade. That would save me a little money because my trade value is not taxable.

Last week, i just saw Theo Pas'cal playing a Zon bass, didn't get the model. But he had an amazing sound coming out of there.

Here it is :

They seem to be great basses. :bassist:

I talked to Mark and Joe the other day and they stated that they were really busy with the upcoming NAMM, perhaps this is why they are a bit slow to respond. But they are doing work on my bass:)
And mine too, and Mark said they really wanted to get it back to me before xmas (prolly to keep it on this year's books). :)

have an old zon legacy elite here... old zon logo at headstock, set neck, single bart humbucker at p-position. i'm just wondering how old is it.

any ideas?

Just got off the phone with Mark and (I think) Joe.

Well good news and bad news...

The bad news...

They don't have it in the database... it could be due to a file corruption problem they did have a while back, or if not, it could also be due to some other records problem because of how old it is. Regardless, they don't have the specific info on this bass anymore.

Now the good news...

It's apparently a VERY early model, we're talkin' EARLY TO MID EIGHTIES judging very generally by the logo style, the pickup/knobs, and the serial number (seat of the pants guestimate on their part). This is very much towards their beginnings as a commercial bass company (I think he said they started in like 80, so they don't get much older than that). What this means is, to the right collector, this bass is probably worth quite a lot of money. Their comments were that you should hang on to this baby. I didn't ask them to valuate it, and quite frankly, that'd probably also be really tough to do (not to mention most vendors don't really like to do that anyway)... still a pretty nitchy market for "vintage" boutique stuff like this, but the bottom line is, as Zons go, this is about as vintage as it gets, highly valuable, and a fantastic bass.

Congrats!
