Zoom b3 patch Ideas

I lost track of this thread a while back, as I sort of found the sounds I was looking for and haven't really played with them much since then.

However... I was wondering if anyone has come up with a patch that resembles the Fender Rumble V3?

What I am looking for is a patch that can resemble my Fender Rumble 500 combo (2x10) through the B3 for when I am practicing through headphones or recording into my laptop. I know I could use the headphone out on the combo, but I would like the "flavour" of the speakers in there also.

Any ideas?

I'm sure Crystalman will chime in. He does a fantastic job making patches. I've been hearing lots of good things about the new Rumble series. Maybe try the Fender Bassman model with one of the more hi-fi ish speaker cab sims as a start?

Hey there...I did made some patches on duplicating the fender rumble sounds. I don't recall what page it was on, but luckly I wrote it down. so here are some fender rumble patches.

V3 vintage

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 90, attack 7

Section 2: any effects you want

Section 3: B-man: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: -3, midfq: 300hz, gain: 45, level: 90, deep: off, cab: ac1x18, mix: 50

V3 bright

Section 1: D comp: sense: 3, tone: 4, level: 100, attack: fast

Section 2: exciter: bass: 2, treble: 4, level: 80

Section 3: B-man: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 5, midfq: 250hz, gain: 45, level: 85, deep: off, cab: ha4x10, mix: 50

V3 contour

Section 1: znr: thresh: 17, detect: gtrln, level: 100

First off, be sure to have a p-bass or a bass that has a p-bass like sound. secondly, I would assume that sound in particular is a tube-like sound. here's a patch I came up with that has that old school geezer butler type sound.

Geezer bass

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 17, ratio: 4, level: 100, attack: 8

Section 2: t-scream: gain: 10, tone: 25, level: 100, balance: 40

Section 3: B-man: bass: 4, mid: 5, treble:-2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 45, level: 80, deep: off cab: sb4x12, mix: 50

Give it a shot and see if it works out. if that doesn't help, you can always try the ampeg amp model for a more modern sound.

Geezer bass 2

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 17, ratio: 4, level: 100, attack: 8

Section 2: t-scream: gain: 10, tone: 25, level: 100, balance: 40

Here's the patch I use for base for home recordings when recording bass:

BassPre: Bass: 7 Trbl: 4 Level:100 Mid:8 Freq:630Hz

G-Krueger: Bass: 6 Mid: 5 Trbl: 6 Mid_F: 350Hz Gain: 20 Level:100 Color: Off Mix: 100

I am not sure how to describe the sound, but I at least find it quite useful as a base bass sound to sculpture my tone further with with VST's.

Maybe I should note that I also always run my EHX Black Finger tube driven optical compressor in front of it and my Behringer Ultragain Mic100 tube mic preamp after it, before it goes into my sound interface.

Ambient Fretless Bass

My first contribution, since the new purchase of my B3. Still have the 506 I am using, but hopefully I can get those favorite sounds changed over to the B3. Wish I had a Strymon Timeline Delay as Damian uses here, but for now this will work with my Fretless with EMG-JSet 18v active Pickups, SWR 350 and 2 x 12" Alum speakers.(Your mileage my vary).

French Horn Fretless Bass

If you pluck with staccato notes (sharp and quick) you'll get kinda of a French Horn sound, well at least on my end for my bass. Good luck.

Have you tried using TWO amp sims w/ cab sims in the same patch? Try a couple of different combinations... also, you may consider using the patch that gets you close and throwing some EQ on the last part (post the amp/cab sim) and playing around with boosting the 125 - 250 Hz range...

After a bit of experimentation, I found using compression to bump up the attack got the best 'fwop' (punch) for emulating the 15" speaker. I'm still debating whether I like the Acoustic or Marshall models distortion in conjunction w/ the Ampeg 15" cab and some compression better.

I do believe you can get that ehx bass soul food sound from using the ampeg svt amp model along with tube-screamer model. here's what I came up with.

Section 1: dualcomp: hi: 20, lo:35, freq: 1.0hz, level: 90, tone: 5

Section 2: t-scream: gain: 40, tone: 50, level: 100, blend: 25

Section 3: svt: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 5, midfq: 300hz, gain: 38, level: 40, ultra: low, cab: ag1x15, mix: 50

Give this patch a try and see if it works out for you. also the first vintage grind patch is as close as I can get to duplicate the darkglass vmt sound and it was a hit for the zoom b3 users here. and now zoom is releasing the new zoom b3n which includes a bass overdrive model based on the darkglass b3k and a preamp model based on the darkglass b7k. I would like to get to see the zoom b3n's take on of the darkglass pedals.

I found time yesterday to try out these patches. The first one (vintage) is great! It was too late for an A/B comparison with the Rumble, but through headphones it sounded good.

The bright I find too noisy (lots of hiss), but I didn't have time to play around with any settings to see if it went away (too busy playing on the above patch ;) )

Contour is also good, although I didn't spend too much time on it.

Distortion is something I don't really use that often, so I can't comment on how close it is to the Rumble.

Glad you find the vintage version to be useful. I enjoy it myself along with the contour version and the rumble distortion. I don't use the bright version. personally I'm more into warmer bass sounds as well as distorted bass sounds. other than that, I done the best I can to create patches that closely duplicates the fender rumble amps. plus, I own a fender rumble v3 40. really awesome amp. I've used it for small gigs and to parties where I've been asked to play music.
