Zoom MS-60B announced... at last

Looks really cool. As mentioned, it's a little expensive considering it's competing with the B3 in a way, but $100 is still pretty cheap for what is basically one stompbox that can be whatever particular effect you want. I'd get a few if I wasn't already hooked onto multi-effects units.

It can do a series of effects in a row so it is basically a multi-effect unit in a stomp box if all it could do was one effect at a time I wouldn't be as excited about it.

Hey Charlie could you explain the line selector?

The LineSel effect is a new offering found in the MS-60B and not the B3.

I would consider this addition a very specialized pedal that I do not believe many users will take advantage of, but regardless, it is there for those in-the-know.

At best, the LineSel allows one to bulk-switch, either on/off, 1 to 3 other neighboring effects, simultaneously, with one foot-click on the LineSel effect. Let me explain.

The MS-60B is able to support up to 4 effects in a chain, and if desired, one of those effects can be a LineSel. Should one place the LineSel first in the chain, the last 3 effects will then be under control of the LineSel. Should one place the LineSel second in the chain, then the last 2 effects will be under control, etc.

When the LineSel is "On", the flow through the chain will be through all X number of enabled effect slots after the LineSel. When the LineSel is "Off", the flow through the chain will bypass all other in-place effects after the LineSel.

Cool, but for me, I wish Zoom would have included their Ampeg B-15 model instead :D

Cheers!

You are he best sir thanks I emailed one of the company reps he said there will be updates but he didn't want to commit to a time table.

After fiddling with my B3 last night and reading the rest of the manual before I went to bed.. the MS-60 seems like the perfect pedal for someone who doesn't need a lot of effects either because they already have a board or they don't use very many.. The processor is very good.. I was surprised at how clean the B3 is..

To piggy back mjac a bit, this isn't quite accurate. Right now I have about 15 patches that are foot switchable, each with two to four effects chained within them. That's like taking 15 PT Nano setups and being able to switch between them by stomping one box. I have never been into multi effects and would never have considered buying a B3 before, so I don't think it's competing with that at all.

I can use the 60b on my OneSpot but not the B3.

I use my 60B with a Boss PSA-120. Silent, and no problems so far in venues where the guitarists were struggling with noise.

I see a lot of One Spot noise complaints on guitar forums. I don't know if the issue is pedals that are sensitive to poor filtering, or that some pedals present a difficult load to drive...

At home I am able to successfully operate both my B3 and MS-60B using the classic Boss PSA-120 rated at 200 mA, but I do not know if I would completely trust it on-site at a gig, as Zoom recommends a 500 mA supply.

For now, I will err on the side of caution, but I am curious to learn first-hand if I can use a 1 SPOT on both devices without issue, specifically as I intend to power only one device at a time with it (and not daisy chain.)

I'm lookin into picking one of these up, but I have a question. How is the pitch shifter? Does it track well?

I'm currently playing in a wedding band, and, depending on the singer, they like to transpose some tunes a half step sharp or flat. I'm using the M9 for this right now and it does a good job, but its just too big. I'm just looking for a decent tone and good tracking at 100% wet. Any info would be great.

Thanks

When I had a B3 I was using a One Spot, but I also used one of those isolator adapters, and as I said, had no problems powering two B3's with it. If you're using a 200ma adapter on two pedals rated for 500ms each, i'll bet you're under powering them. While this probably won't hurt them, it will affect the way some of the effects sound. Go to Danelectro's site and listen to some of their sound samples using their variable voltage power supplies.

FWIW, the Godlyke Power-All is rated at 2,000 mA (2 amps) vs. the One Spot's 1,700 mA. I've had good results using the Godlyke to daisy-chain four or five pedals (including a 350 mA 12 volt compressor) with no issues.

Either way, though, you should be able to power two 500 mA devices, and then some.

I received my MS-60B today and I am over the moon with Zoom!

The best finding for me is that the MS-60B is capable of driving a power amp directly and as such can be used as a dedicated preamp, just like big brother B3

Should you be into amp modeling and cabinet sims based on Zoom's ZFX-IV DSP effects processor found in both the MS-60B and B3, I invite you to check-out my B3 thread, as most content is equally applicable to the MS-60B

Wow, the MS-60B can be used as a preamp?

Makes me wish they would have thrown an xlr out on this thing like the B3, so you could use it as a DI box. I guess you could use a 1/4 to XLR cord though......right? You couldn't send a dry bass signal, but could be useful.

Makes me want one even more.

No, the output is unbalanced and is still instrument level. A cable would not balance the signal.

It's much too small to have an XLR output anyway, plus they still want to push sales of their B3. This intent of this is really only to use as an effect pedal inline with other effect pedals. Any uses beyond that is just gravy.

Maybe I'll use the ms-60b with a DI box then.......
