Zoom MS-60B announced... at last

For those of you who have delved deeper, are there some less used, more out there but useable effects that makes this pedal a good add-on to all the usual meat and potatoes that many of us already have dedicated pedals for? I'm thinking synth, ring mod, weirdness in general? Sound clips would be awesome ...

I have the same question. I think people have said the synths are pretty good.

Paulie - I've been thinking about adding the MS-60B to my Nano board, which is basically a tuner two OD's, and a compressor. How well do you find that the Zoom works with your "regular" Aguilar and SFX pedals? Have you gotten good results using it like any other standalone effect (for example, to add a chorus pedal at the end of your normal chain)?

I've only had my MS-60B for a couple of days, and haven't had a chance to try it with any other pedals yet. However, I'm very impressed with its solo capabilities so far. if I didn't like to tone of my Effectrode PC-2A compressor so much, I'd almost be tempted to ditch everything and just use a tuner and the Zoom!

Hey all, I'm a noobie when it comes to these multi-effects pedals. At the same time I usually run direct and don't use an amp anymore. Sorry if this is blasphemy. I've been using a crappy Delta-labs to get me the 3 main sounds I need for my project. A straight bass sound, something with a little more punky overdrive, and a synthy sound like the beginning of The Police "Don't Stand So Close To Me". The Delta Labs serves its purpose but its glitchy and I know that Zoom has better sounds. I was thinking of getting a B3 or a Used B2.1 (don't really need expression pedal), but the MS-60B is really intriguing.

So finally the question.

Is anyone using just this pedal and going direct? Basically going from the MS-60B into a direct box and into a PA? If you are, is it possible to just cycle between 3 primary sounds to use live? I know its not set up with "banks" like other units and it also looks like you can only cycle one direction when using the foot switch (ie. 1-2-3 not 1-2-3-2-1).

Oh yeah, and Charlie, why would you need a tuner? The Zoom has one built in.

Exactly. A-B-C-D-E-F...and back to A. I use mine with other pedals but direct with no amp. What works gret for me is to use a True Bypass Looper with the zoom looped through so I can turn it off to still have my clean tone while I cycle through for next patch, but I use my clean signal a lot.

It is only available as a loop A-B-C...
However, if you have a couple patches that you would switch between, you can have multiple copies of them and put them in the sequence you want in the loop.

I've only had mine a couple of days as well, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. It works very well with the other pedals on the board. To me, the zoom could not replace the red dragon or the Octamizer. The dragon is such a great initial pedal to run through for tone shaping with its newly added mid switch and ability to do very light, smoothing OD. The zoom can't beat the Octamizer IMO. The TLC and Filter Twin are arguable, but I do feel they sound better. I like to have quick access to these as well. The zoom filters and comps are pretty stellar however. I love all the rest that the zoom brings. I'm a fan initially of the Xotic drives and muff once they're dialed back and blended. The moog and q-tron filters are a lot of fun. Verbs, mods, and delays are all very usable. The SVT is nice and touch sensitive. Anyway, that's just a couple of observations after spending a little time with it.

No modification, what you describe is how it functions. By default the footswitch turns the current effect on the screen off and on. However, if you assign certain patches to the A/B/C slots, you can go into the mode where the footswitch toggles through the assignments. If you only have three assigned, then yes, it will go A-B-C-A-B-C...

Yeah, and it seems to work well. I was very pleased that Zoom gave us the option to enable the tuner-mute function on this unit. I just really like using my Turbo Tuner a lot better.

Plus, it's easier for my monkey brain to have one button, separate from everything else, that shuts me up! :help:

There are about 4 or 5 synths, some crazy talking wahs, modulation effects, and my personal favorite, a sequence filter, all with a fair amount of parameters to control (even clean blends!). I almost think sound clips would be misleading because one or two couldn't represent all the far out stuff you could do, because the magic is in the ability to combine up to 4 effects in any order. Mind boggling array of possible sound concoctions.

Had another awesome gig with this thing. If you play in a wedding band or cover band and have to switch between genres, this tool was made for you. I loaded up a few of the factory presets and a few of my own patches into the A/B/C slots and changed up my sound on the fly all night. Bass was sounding a bit weak on the motown, hit the PB Olskool (thanks, PB!). Funk jam? FAT dry gave me all the finger style thump. Rec Set for clarity, Rock SVT for dirty, a lighter drive SVT with EQ for regular rock that cuts, low gain BB for grit, etc etc.

It's almost too much power :eek:.

With my board now. I lose a lot of pedal on my board because of this baby. I love this pedal!

I've gotta say, as much as I love my GT-10B, I could definitely see myself switching to a board consisting entirely of MS-60B's.

Someone here mentioned that you can have one pedal run multiple functions; would I be able to have a noise gate permanently activated, with the footswitch turning a tuner/mute on and off? I was tossing up the idea of having one pedal take care of all my "utility" effects, but my compressor needs to be at the beginning of my chain. So, I figure I could have one pedal at the start with the compressor always on, and the switch turning overdrive on/off, then the aforementioned tuner/noisegate combination at the end. I'd fill the space in between with delay, auto-wah, etc.

There is a vocal autowah, but it's not part of the step sequencer. I dig the step sequencer, but I think the parameters you can control are the number of steps (2 through 8 if I remember right) and then speed and maybe resonance. Put a fuzz in front of behind it though and it really comes to life. It inspired a new song idea for my band.
