They offer the OG plain Spaghetti O's, ones with meatballs, ones with Franks.

It depend. As an example:

I modded my 1984 MIJ Fender Jazz Special, so it is more useable. I had this bass since 2001 - 25 years , The Fender pickups were hot but also muddy like those hot Duncans that have zero sparkle and the electronics and TBX tone control sucked and the bridge bothered my palm muting besides it wasn't stable. So GZR pickups, added a parallel mode via push pull, a usueable tone control, Hipshot Bridge, De-tuner on E, Reso-lites without adding new holes and Tusq nut. The neck was already a nice specimen of subtle flamed maple and the rosewood is dark. Now a usable PJ and doesn't look that different except for the bridge and knobs, I am even removing the paint on the EMG logo.

All mods improved the bass a lot. It has painted bass body in solid color and I am keeping it that way so that it keeps its modest appearance. Better than any American or even custom shop Fender passive PJ in sound and playability and it is also light.

I am not going to reverse any of the mods -- if I will sell it. I will give all the parts. But if you are a player, there is not need to go back to the original parts -- if you are a collector, you are not the buyer I seek,

MY Pedulla Buzz had issues with the J pickup and I got a replacement from Bartolini, but as I ordered it, I had this impulse to get EMG X series preamp and Alnico pickups and the BTS EQ was better than the 2 band Bartolini , This is a 1989 bass. If I will sell it, I will revert it and use or sell the EMG items , because I actually have the spec sheet for it that says it has Bartolini and that is something that adds value. So I am keeping all the pickups and electronic packed well in the event I will sell it. The bass will not benefit from upgrading bridge, nut or tuners, I do feel the EMG was a worthy mod to me as a player but not as dramatic as the Fender above.

Having said, I am not selling these two.

Interesting thought! In terms of a general observation I would say that many manufacturers are reprising legacy sounds and feel in the new smaller, light weight technologies because we did have some good playing rigs back in the day.

I also think the aspect about new features is right on as well as things like USB charging ports, variable HPFs, etc. are welcome additions in modern heads that offer legacy inspired voicing.

Those look good, and useable.

There is a company called Fret-Flo that makes nice side dot stickers in different sizes, shapes, colors, and even glow in the dark ones. I've used them for years and like their durability.

Maybe an effort to counter neck dive? Maybe to accommodate some feature on the machine heads?

The Gibson EB-11 is another bass worth looking into. Only built as a limited edition back in 2011 but can be found in the 1400.00 to 1500.00 price range. It has the same electronics of the SG Standard bass but sounds very much different. I have both the SG Standard and the EB-11 so this is not just an assumption. It took me a couple of months for me to find this one but, well worth it. The Pelham Blue is to die for IMHO.

In what way does it sound different than the SB Standard Basses?

Happens to me all the time! I have been jamming with these guys who have played in a killer band for 20 yrs. Watch them, feel the kick, don’t over play.

I've been following these basses for a while. I see people trying to sell them on Reverb for more than they bought them for. I have also seen their price nearly double over the past couple of years. As I understand it, they had some bad quality issues early on... I think more people would buy if they were closer to the $2K range...

I forgot about this thread... Ive never attempted something like that but it looks pretty natural. I suspect having the shorter scale together with the horn at the 11th fret instead of the 12th makes for a fairly comfortable playing experience, especially for those of us with shoulder and wrist\hand issues. Another option for people to consider.

Now THIS checks all the boxes for me. I'll get a picture of the full gig simulator for comparison soon.

Two months later: the neck has stabilized. I still loosen the strings when storing it, but it can go a week or more with playing tension and show no sign of bowing. The action is now great.

Did anyone, other than content creators, actually RECEIVE theirs???

The latter.

Terrific instruments that never got the recognition they deserved, IMO.

Apart from Robbie Shakespeare I can't recall any well-known bass player using them.

I've sent the pickup off for a rewind and will try to remember to post back.

For a quick overview of what I did to discover this:-

Neck pickup unusually thin.

Re-wired wiring harness, all new pots, wiring, and solder. All joints nice and shiny. Still low output.

Direct to jack, had a more full sound.

When testing ohm resistance 20k, received 0.L (infinite resistance)

Contacted my pickup guy, confirmed it needs a rewind.

Hopefully this helps somebody who comes across this thread.
