Sperzel locking tuners. Good idea or bad idea?

Never used a bass tremolo, but for guitar, I don't find locking tuners to be of much help assuming the strings are wound around the post correctly and don't have excess winds. While they definitely don't hurt and make re-strings much faster, I wouldn't bother adding lockers unless the guitar had sub-par tuners.

There's a lot of voodoo about staying in tune with a trem. Most tuning issues are caused by the nut or trem design.
I believe the thrust was the diminished afterlength and compliance and not so much the tuning stability or lack thereof. The whammy bar / block reacts differently. My two favorites are Leslie West and Buck Dharma…both use(d) tremolo-equipped Steinbergers.

Beating/Warbling tone

Well, the way that I play I am muting the string behind where I am playing to stop the string from rattling on the nut side of the string, as well as all the other strings. But if you're not muting, that counter resonance on the other side can show up. And the higher you play up the neck the more string there is to resonate. It also could be the string resonating on the headstock side of the nut and that when you're playing lower on the neck the downward pressure is enough to mute it at the nut... I got a trouble shooting list a mile long. One cure would be less relief on the neck to mute the string by way of frets, or mute it with your other fingers. Might not be your issue, but if you've tightened every screw and muted every possible resonant thing, you start looking for stranger solutions. Some people use fret wraps for this. On my fretless if I play an Eb on the A string at the 6th fret and it's major 3rd harmonic G at the 5th fret on the G string the string on the other side of my Eb on the A string rings enough to sound chorusy acoustically. Doesn't manifest in the amp signal (I don't think).
Ok thanks. Maybe I’ll buy a fret wrap.

Looking for a black 16mm 5 string bridge

It's on the Kahler site, you just have to do the unit conversion from Decimal Freedom Units to millimeters. The narrowest string spacing is 0.55" which is about 14mm.

That said in order for it, or any non-original bridge to fit your bass, a tech would likely need to fit a block of wood to fill that cavity.

It's not very deep cavity, looks about 5mm..

Does the Oscillator Devices Hydra4x Matrix Loop Switcher work with bass (no filtering, tone suck, etc.)?

So strange IMO to use a bandwidth-limited buffer in this application, but I guess there must be some technical reasoning behind it (maybe to decrease switching noise transients or something?). I’m really surprised I can’t find a single mention of this in the Morningstar forums- I realize the main market is standard-tuned guitarists who probably don’t notice a little roll-off of the fundamental on their lowest notes, but surely there are a number of extended-range guitarists, bass and synth players using the ML10X who would be more obviously affected by this and a lot of guitarists are tone purists to a fault too (I kinda suspect there’d be a little scandal over there if there was a thread about this even though most users would likely never hear much difference).
I was so convinced that I had done something wrong in my testing, or mine was faulty. No way I could have been the first to notice, but I never did find any other mention. And I love Morningstar gear, everything else I've used has been wonder. Using the ML10X was wonderful too, if I was fooling around with crazy effect routing.

Basslab Heat-Activated Fret Resin

Ken Parker discusses a lot of these topics in the YouTube video series. E.g. here: Login to view embedded media He discusses the first prototype with brass tubing cut in half, and then moving to the rolled 304 stainless steel frets. He explains that it was not possible (from the manufacturing perspective) to get a normal fret (tang an barbs) with that steel (technically you could probably do it, but it would be astronomically expensive).

The entire video series is a masterpiece.

Reverb.com browsing has become insufferable

Just needing to vent, but also hoping someone from the mothership actually sees this. We all know Reverb has been sliding since the acquisition, but 2026 has been a total nosedive.

I usually scroll through Bass Guitars, Amps, and Pedals on my work breaks, but lately, it’s a chore. The "Bump" feature has turned the feed into a landfill. Nearly half of every page is just low-effort, hot garbage listings. To make it worse, it’s the same handful of sellers dumping redundant, duplicate ads with massive bump percentages to stay at the top.

We desperately need a "Mute Seller" or "Hide Duplicates" feature. I’m tired of digging through a mountain of trash just to find some cool listings.

Anyone else experiencing this on your non-curated feeds?

Yes. I search for Benge (trumpet) and I get useless results. I've bought many trumpets here...eBay is now better than Reverb.

Double p with Vol/blend/tone is really quiet

I would start by disconnecting the pan pot from the volume pot and then connecting one pickup to the volume pot to see if volume returns to normal.

Also, I would be more inclined to use the 'no-load ungrounded' M/N blend wiring which has the advantage of truly isolating each pickup at the ends of the rotation.

DR Sunbeams on a fretless?

Well... All I can say is, that's how badly damaged my hands and fingers are. The TI Jazz Rounds I had on my Gretsch Broadkaster were definitely the smoothest rounds I ever played, but... I finally had to 86 them late last year. Just... not smooth enough, any more. They were the last rounds I had on a bass. Now, they all wear tapes or flats. And, yes; I do miss some of the rounds I've used over the last 5 decades. I just... simply can't play them any more... :rollno:

Sorry to hear. I'm glad you're able to play at all, all things considered.

GR2 Effects Loop Synth

I definitely had success with a Z Vex Mastotron in the effect loop - I even have a recording:

This is from the same session - probably the Mastatron plugged in as seen in the pic, but not turned on:

To me, the main thing with the effects loop is that the GR-2 can distort/effect but with the un-effected input signal envelope/dynamics. Would the Pitchfork and/or chorus/flange sound better in the effects loop, or just after the GR-2? If they are in the effects loop, then they aren't accessible without the GR-2 unless you change the setting inside. I think I might try just the Mastotron in the effects loop for that special effect (distortion post-envelope). Whatever you do, have fun!

I'll keep it short and sweet. Thijs makes top shelf gear. Excellent balance between warmth and clarity. Very low noise floor on par with my quietest solidstate preamps.

Also excellent with acoustic guitar. It's become my absolute favorite with my Fishman equipped Ibanez. The perfect amount of subtle compression and color. A big natural present tone. Record ready sound through a good active PA top.
Thread revival.

Fast slapper: did you receive the Detti 300 all-tube power amp? If so, how does it sound/perform?

Boss katana bass 110 and 210

Maybe you’re right.
But, I’ve owned a tc electronic with class D amp. It doesn’t work.
I know a bassist which his Markbass amp had problems .
I think it’s more difficult to repair a class D. The power amp is one of problems. You should see a qualified technician to resolve class D amp.

Technically you can break anything if you don't know what you're doing.

Diagnosing open string buzz and fret buzz on higher up the fretboard

String height is set to 2.8 mm, high. I'm not noticing any of these problems before the 5th fret. No shim either--I'll try adding one, but having done that before, this is a different problem.

Concerned now about a neck flaw but won't jump to any conclusions!
Don’t even think about a shim unless there is no more room for saddle adjustment. From my experience most people misundetstand the neck-body geometry and add or remove a shim for entirely the wrong reasons. If you still have adjustment room on your saddles a shim is pointless.

Comply Oval IEM Tips

UPDATE

I received my Comply Oval tips today. I get a better seal than the OEM silicone tips. In fact, the best seal I've ever had with any non-custom IEMs.

It will be interesting to see how they work in the real world where I don't have 3 minutes to fiddle with my ears to get a good seal.

Preamp Replacement (Ray 5 Sub H by Sterling)

honestly I was mostly joking with that, I just tend to listen to advice and then right at the end go with something either completely unrelated or completely opposite of what I said... Honestly just depends on what Im feeling that day lol
Funny Story, Picked up a Schecter Omen Elite-5 for like 487 at Guitar Center literally less than a week ago, love it, still trying to figure out which position on the 3 way toggles is series, parallel, or coil split lol.
