Another LEH Review

I brought this out for my 3 gigs on Saturday and Monday's evening Blues Jam.. It played and sounded great.. Saturday's 1st gig was a multi band concert and I received a lot of compliments on the sound/tone of it from the sound crew and other players.. I love Lollar pickups and I generally play it passive.. I usually prefer either Ash or Alder for the body tonewood, but this is an Okoume body and it sounds great to my ears..

Opto compressor to pair with Cali76?

@carsonchilders Last night I had a 1966 Guild Starfire going into the OE ‘64 Black Panel into DLA2A. Simple. The comp brought up the noise floor on the OE, but in the mix it was one of those…Great Scott! moments. (Nerdy Doc Lloyd reference 🙃) I was lucky and got one from the last drop of 10, thinking that if I needed to sell it I’d have no problem. Now it’s a matter of how quickly can I pay off my CC?! 😂 It’s not going anywhere.

Applying a baseball card to my bass...

I have been using Elmer's Glue All for years to attach items to my basses including finger rests, patches and geegaws- should work fine with that baseball card. The nice thing is it is not permanent and can easily be removed. It is sturdy enough to hold a finger rest securely.

Ashdown Studio 10 - got it at a decent used price... Any experience with this little combo amp?

I will be gigging with an Ashdown Studio 10 tomorrow eve.
My trio plays in a couple of small restaurants w/limited space and we aren't particularly loud.
I use a Behringer $25.00 Bass EQ along with it and a P Bass. A usable non-farting level /sound can be achieved.
I also gig with my Studio 10. My band is not unlike yours, but we generally perform in (fairly quiet) senior retirement homes. I bypass the Ashdown preamp with a SansAmp BDDIv2 directly into the line in jack. I really like the sound.

Bought a Subway 15, and still feel like the bottom end is lacking

This has certainly been an enjoyable thread, with lots of good discussion.
With that said, every time I log on to TB, I see this thread and wonder what @JAck19 has decided on.
I would like to see a reply from OP, on where he is in the process and what (if anything) he has zeroed in on.
I'm just lurking on my own thread, enjoying all the redirects, hard left turns, and the occasional on-topic post 🤣

I still have the 1x15 Subway here. My flat pack for my W15GTi has been CNC'ed. I just need to get over to my buddy's shop to pick it up (and that's a LONG drive into DFW traffic :banghead:. Have I had time to even practice/play? Nope. Life has a wonder habit of getting in the way when you need free time the most. The only practice I've been getting has been the occasional late night bedroom session through my Sonicake Pocket Master and DT 770s. I literally worked 'til 2am this morning. "Own your own business! You'll have so much more freedom!" they said. LIES! haha. Anyway, back to making that wall-of-sound money. If you guys don't hear from me by next week, someone come pick me up off my shop floor.

‘79 Musicmaster bass: l original color name - blonde, natural or what?

Many years ago I had a used 1979 (1978?) Fender Musicmaster bass, until it was stolen. It was natural or ‘blonde’ with a white pick guard.

I can’t find any old catalogs online to verify if that bass was offered originally in natural/blonde.
Does anyone know if the Musicmaster was offered in natural/blonde around 1979? Or was it likely refinished by the previous owner?
Would Fender have officially called that color natural, blonde, or what?

Unfortunately, I can’t find the one photo that I have of that bass.
I agree with tubedude. My first bass was a white Musicmaster. I wish I still had it. I got it in 7th grade, but by the time I got to college, it had yellowed.

Baltimore Pedal Show '26

I stopped by for only an hour or so but it was really nice! felt much less cramped than last year, but the lines were still pretty long at many booths. I really enjoyed trying the new damnation pedals, amp grinder was the clear winner for me & I'm thinking about what it might bump off my board. red panda also very cool, I've been using the tensor for a while now and spent a minute with their wacky ring mod. I do wish more booths had basses, esp given that it's hard to find good bass demos of many pedals online, but I guess it's to be expected. part of me wishes it were coupled w some kind of show or mini festival, union's nice for that kind of thing and it'd be fun to see some of the gear present in a live fire situation.

Help learning the Greyboy Allstars song Soul Dream of West Coast Boogaloo album

I'm looking for someone to help me learn the bass lines for the Greyboy Allstars song Soul Dream of West Coast Boogaloo album.
Happy to pay. Just need someone to break it down into simpler chucks, go slow. Do it on video.
I've never done this type of learning before but willing to give it a try.

I've been playing for 20 years. Mostly rock. I'm trying to get into some deep grooves. This is my first deep dive. Hopefully more to come.

Thanks,
Andy

Try using You Tube, you can change the playback speed to slow it down

Light string gauge for 6 string

Hey everyone, I’ve got a Carvin LB76 on the way and was wondering what you guys are using for light gauges?

I prefer pretty light strings for my 4 strings (.40-.095) so I think a set with those, a .120 B string, and a .030 C would be ideal. Thanks!
Agreed totally. Go too heavy on the B and to me it sounds as if it’s for a different set of strings.

Good Bass for Slapping ?

Not sure. I'm often amazed that people use certain basses but do not review it in the band context. I hear this a lot.

On regular video reviews of gigs..on simple phone devices, it can be quite obvious that a certain bass doesn't work.
Sure, it sounds ok/pretty decent as a standalone sound but I have active J5's that, despite being a great bass, and sound good, just do not sit as well as they could.
Sometimes, it is minute eq on that particular song but also it can be just not the right bass.

This is the reason I'm selling some otherwise great basses.
The acid test is 'wouldn't be picked on a session' but not right on the gig either.
