Hi everyone,
I've already searched through the forum and found quite a few threads comparing the RC Booster V1 and V2, but most of the discussion seems to focus on the additional Boost switch on the V2 and the 18V option.
I'm currently considering buying one, and I have the opportunity to get either a used V1 or V2 for exactly the same price.
I'm not really interested in the extra Boost function, and I would run either version at 9V. What I'm mainly interested in is whether anyone who has actually owned or A/B'd both versions noticed any tonal differences between the V1 and V2.
I'm looking for the RC primarily as a clean/low-gain booster: I want to keep the character of my passive Precision, but give it a little more push and harmonics going into my amp. I'm currently using a Keeley Bassist compressor, and the RC would go straight into an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro.
So, V1 or V2 aside from the extra features — does one sound noticeably different from the other? More/less low end, mids, highs, compression, headroom, feel, etc.?
I'd especially appreciate comments from anyone who has owned both versions rather than just compared the specs.

When I played it, I always played the F# as an octave (both notes, low and high with the pointer and pinky) and the rest of the notes as...well, just notes. It was exhausting but I kept it solid the whole song.

I decided to pass on it. More of an impulse buy than anything. Thanks for the replies, guys. Without them, I would be sitting with more clutter.

Whirlwind 10-Band. I use the standard version. Transparent low noise eq.

I pray that Andy enjoys retirement and spending more quality time with his son! Hopefully, whoever decides to take the baton will continue making amazing bass cabs that excel in low-frequency reproduction!

But the main issue is, do you want a half size bass? I went from a 3/4 size juzek (42” string length) to a 5/8 size German shop bass (39.5”) and I like it, but I’m no giant. I wouldn’t want anything shorter. And I bought the smaller bass because it sounded great, not because it was smaller. It took me a while to adjust to the size. Most inexpensive small basses have no bottom end, which is kind of a problem considering that’s pretty much the whole point of a double bass.

$600 is very cheap for a working double bass, but unless you’re looking for a really small bass, you’re not going to be happy.

That's funny. I traded a 5/8 German bass (hybrid, Götz) for a 3/4 Plywood Juzek about 44 years ago!!

Nice and chuggtastic, though I’m going to try a Mesa Gold Mine next, chasing that John Petrucci Boogie mk IIC+ tone. The Knuckles is pretty badass though.

Part of CNC'ing is learning how to use CAD, Fusion 360 is the typical recommendation for hobbyists because its free, but you can get pretty far with Tinker CAD. I'd start with a body you like and recreate it then buy a neck from one of the Chinese suppliers on amazon or eBay.

After many years of thinking on it, I am building out a pedalboard specifically for testing pedalboard concepts (like pedal order), parallel processing etc. I have been looking at the Boss ES-5 as something that would fit on my board and seems pretty easy to set up and to program. It's also MIDI in/out compatible, something else I want to explore.

What are your experience w/ switching systems? Is there an easy one that will help me to A/B/C/D/E test pedals or test them in different orders? The Boss does look pretty straightforward.

Guessing at the cause is a waste of time. Unless you have the technical skills to properly diagnose and repair the issue yourself, I wouldn't invest a penny into someone else's defective equipment. Save your $100 towards something that works.

Mt. Thielsen in the Oregon Cascades. An extinct volcano mostly known for it's sharp peak, largely due to lightning strikes that have eroded surrounding rocks into a sharp spire.

I have thought of making a "lab" pedalboard for some time, to explore technology and learn some stuff. Might even create some video content along the way. I am kicking around adding some kind of effect switching system like a Boss ES-5 to make testing/playing a little easier and more fun.

It just occurred to me that the song, “Sledgehammer,” was released forty years ago this summer.Peter Gabriel, Manu Kache, Tony Levin, et al showed out on the original track!

I can't see the pick itself making a significant difference to speed. Technique would though.
