Follow up:

So...I think the answer is no. I sent a message a couple days later thanking them for having me in, and expressing a desire to do it again with the full band (remember, keys player was absent).

Message was sent on Thursday.

Message was seen.

Crickets.

Just as well. One more session in that room, and with a keyboard taking up space...the music wasn't that good.

Quite the life you've led...many bits I, and I'd say most of us TBers, can relate to for sure.

Fender has NEVER made anything i would purchase right off the shelf "as is"...While I do own Fenders they are all PARTS/MOD basses...as FENDER never pairs the colors i like with the neck I like or the hardware i want, pickguard etc....

Meh...

I guess that's why so many brands exist...lol

The gain controls both gain stages and "style" blends the two circuits so until you go "full J", that is CCW on style you'll hear some of the "bite" happening but its only really on the F preamp. I mean J and F are two different preamps that share a gain control, tailored to work with both. "style" blends the two parallel preamps. Capo il like several pedals into one, not for features alone, literaly.

Too loose. I'm sticking with Bel Cantos on both basses for the duration. This was 13 years and a couple of basses ago, BTW.

It was super fun! Went mostly fine. I didn't use charts. A couple clams. I simplified Winehouse/Tears Dry on the verse a little which is essentially the Ain't no Mountain bass line- but went note for note for the recognizable riff.

The one that got me was the Beatles Something. Probably more goofs in that than the rest of the gig. The transitions got me. Who knew? If I'd had more time, I'd spend more time on it. I don't do much Beatles usually, and it was an education. I have a better appreciation for Harrison's songwriting and McCartney's bass playing.

The band said I nailed Sweet Emotion. There were a bunch of other tunes I didn't have on my list, but got some key or instructions from the guitarist before we launched, mostly root and some walking for those. Some of them I knew.

End result- probably adding Ain't no Mountain and Something into the practice rotation for a bit until I have extracted some more of the lessons from them. If I knew the form of Sometimes even a little better, I would have struggled less.

The real test? Do I get invited back the next time they need someone? We'll see.

My parents (in late 70s) recently moved closer to me and my sis, and they decided to rent for now instead of buy. This would have been a great opportunity for them to do a serious declutter, but it didn't happen. They're renting a 3 bedroom, 3000 sq. ft. house in a 55+ neighborhood, but they claim the house doesn't have enough storage space. The house is more than 2 retired people really need, but apparently it's not enough.

I think the IMA preset I’m using is “Regal” based. It’s ok.

I'm eagerly awaiting a cake of Bassment Summer. I got to try a bit of the Winter a few weeks ago and really liked it.

Yeah I don't like my 1/4" speaker outs but in truth they've never been a bit of trouble.

I picked one of these up and used it on a fairly loud festival stage Saturday. Zero issues with volume. This was through 2 Ampeg SVT210AV’s. Usually I use my board but I decided to go compressor -> YBA100 -> DI out post EQ. Boosted a little bit at 3K. Sound engineer came up at the end and commented the bass sounded fabulous out front. Definitely can’t travel/fly with it, but I’m pretty thrilled with the sound of this thing.

Both models. However, Rounds suits me better, that rumble sound always lifts me up, even the vibration from the instrument in my body feels wonderful

I've already searched through the forum and found quite a few threads comparing the RC Booster V1 and V2, but most of the discussion seems to focus on the additional Boost switch on the V2 and the 18V option.
I'm currently considering buying one, and I have the opportunity to get either a used V1 or V2 for exactly the same price.
I'm not really interested in the extra Boost function, and I would run either version at 9V. What I'm mainly interested in is whether anyone who has actually owned or A/B'd both versions noticed any tonal differences between the V1 and V2.
I'm looking for the RC primarily as a clean/low-gain booster: I want to keep the character of my passive Precision, but give it a little more push and harmonics going into my amp. I'm currently using a Keeley Bassist compressor, and the RC would go straight into an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro.
So, V1 or V2 aside from the extra features — does one sound noticeably different from the other? More/less low end, mids, highs, compression, headroom, feel, etc.?
I'd especially appreciate comments from anyone who has owned both versions rather than just compared the specs.

When I played it, I always played the F# as an octave (both notes, low and high with the pointer and pinky) and the rest of the notes as...well, just notes. It was exhausting but I kept it solid the whole song.

I decided to pass on it. More of an impulse buy than anything. Thanks for the replies, guys. Without them, I would be sitting with more clutter.

Whirlwind 10-Band. I use the standard version. Transparent low noise eq.

I pray that Andy enjoys retirement and spending more quality time with his son! Hopefully, whoever decides to take the baton will continue making amazing bass cabs that excel in low-frequency reproduction!

But the main issue is, do you want a half size bass? I went from a 3/4 size juzek (42” string length) to a 5/8 size German shop bass (39.5”) and I like it, but I’m no giant. I wouldn’t want anything shorter. And I bought the smaller bass because it sounded great, not because it was smaller. It took me a while to adjust to the size. Most inexpensive small basses have no bottom end, which is kind of a problem considering that’s pretty much the whole point of a double bass.

$600 is very cheap for a working double bass, but unless you’re looking for a really small bass, you’re not going to be happy.

That's funny. I traded a 5/8 German bass (hybrid, Götz) for a 3/4 Plywood Juzek about 44 years ago!!

Nice and chuggtastic, though I’m going to try a Mesa Gold Mine next, chasing that John Petrucci Boogie mk IIC+ tone. The Knuckles is pretty badass though.
