Short Scale Bass WIth The Least Neck-Dive

Often a quick tell that a bass is balanced is if the bridge is right at the edge of the butt end of the bass. Not perfect, but the neck has to be really long, or the body exceptionally light to get neck dive if the bridge is tight to the end.

Short Scale Bass WIth The Least Neck-Dive

I have a Danelectro Longhorn that weighs 6lbs and has no neck dive, and the neck is perfect. They can have a bit of a nasally tone, but it sounds great live, and I find I can add bass to even out the tone. I get lots of compliments on the sound live.

    What is the 'old' TalkBass?

I used to enjoy Bill Fitzmaurice when he posted on discussions on speaker cabs. Like someone said previously, most of my gear I’m happy with now. I enjoy posts where people link to music / bassists I haven’t found yet, or like the above video where I knew Carol King but somehow not Charles...

Modern Amp Shopping - Negligible Differences?

You can often find Genz Benz Shuttles 600w insanely cheap used, great features, DI Out, Aux in, headphone out, effects loop, etc. Great sounding reliable amps.

Weirdest thing that happened to your bass (live,of course and with no replacement available)

After all this time I made a rookie move at a gig about 3 months ago. Plugged my cable staight into the bass without looping it through the strap first. When I stepped on the cable in the middle of a song, it came out, and it took me about 4 bars to get it plugged back in. Edit: sorry not...

    Labella 760FM tone equivalent

You’ve got bridge cables on your bass! I played those for a while and moved to lighter gages. I really like the smoothness and sound of FM’s, but definitely less tension at lighter gages. I’m playing the .104 - .43 set, and found those to be comfortable. YMMV.

Guitars & Bass DI to mixer (no amps)

FWIW I was just talking to our guitar player last night (the one in the band that we consider the tone genius) and he mentioned that the Strymon Iridium was much better than most of the other modelers he’d tried. I had asked about using HX stomp vs pedals and he said it was surprising how...

Maybe I'm out of line here...

Especially digging Djino Aia Olo and the Mayotte - Junior B tracks.

    Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

Doing that would create a load of 3 ohms, which the amp can handle. However, the bottom cab would be getting 600w, and the top one 200w. The cabs are rated 500w I believe. IIRC there is a note somewhere that they could handle 800w if not overdriven. I don’t think I would try that with my...

Fender Rumble 500 and Extension Cab

What exactly is the make / model of the extension cab? If you purchased a 4ohm cab, perhaps the amp is turning off the internal speaker. Can you confirm you purchased an 8ohm cab?

    Peavey Cabinet Joinery

Watch Guitar Center to see if a used one shows up. Have them ship it to a GC near you for pickup. If you decide not to keep it, there’s a 30 day return policy.

    "You're terrible!"

I saw Metallica in the 90’s, I think it was the old Arena in Seattle. It would have been the Sandman tour I think. The crowd threw the folding chairs into a giant pile in the middle of the floor, and were climbing them. I made my way down to the floor (from the high up back seats). I tried...

    An Epiphany of Sorts (kinda...)

I just recorded a couple songs today for a friends project through a PF-50T, I have never got a recorded sound that good before. Very happy - I’ve had it for a month. Just used the post transformer output. Stunning sound.

Competing against a Marshall full stack in a loud metal band, what do I need?

Maybe 4 x Mesa Subway 15’s, or 6 x Barefaced 12’s 300w+ tube 800w+ ss might be a start. in a basement - wow. For some reason the Titan submersible implosion comes to mind.
