    Electro Harmonix (EHX) "hot wax"

Hi I'm looking for a thick, gnarly overdrive that you can really saturate and rip but keeps low end- would you say this is sufficient or would you recommend something else. I already use a crayon and love it but the problem I find with it is that if you turn the gain past 12 o clock there is no...

Joined a Nirvana tribute band... might need new bass!

I own an Epiphone thunderbird classic pro IV in vintage burst, and it is perfect. It has Gibson pickups in it so it sounds very meaty even though I find a lot of Krist's tone comes from his amp. Is is also very robust so it can take a Nirvana style beating but if don't like that a black jazz...

    Let's spread some musical misinformation

Plugging a 300 Watt head into a 50 Wattt cab gives a great distorted tone and will not ruin the cabinet, it just makes it sound better.

    Some advice on effects pedals....

There is an epic boutique effects pedals range called 'Dr Green' they are made by Ashdown engineering (Ashdown Engineering). I own an awesome fuzz pedal they made which is very versatile. I also use a Boss HF2 High band flanger.

    Can anyone indentify this bass?

Definitely not a bass. Maybe worth £80-£100

    ProCo Rat - Krist Novoselic

He used a ProCo everywhere: live at Reading you can hear him changing from clean to distorted when they are warming up; live at Paramount you can see it when they are smashing up gear; live and loud you can see it and on the muddy banks of the Wishkah you can here it on most tracks. As for your...

A Complete gear List for Krist Novoselic

So far I have seen Krist destroy three rippers: A black ripper (Pier 48 Seattle 1993) A natural ripper (Reading 1991) And another black ripper (Belgium 1991) Both the black rippers were totalled but I think the natural may have survived by the skin of it's teeth. What I am really suggesting is...

Help! Need to buy 2 basses tommorow!

Something easy to smash would be useful: a bolt on neck would be ideal. Squiers are built rock solid an Epiphone or a cheap second hand bass maybe would do the trick. Just try your local charity shop or eBay...

    Krist novoselic tone

Hi, in my band we do a lot of Nirvana covers and I find similar problems... I think either a mid-boosted neck pickup or a less treble bridge pickup works best. A fresh set of rotosounds help a lot and a light layer of fuzz works really well to get that bungy-bitey sound Krist had. You...

    Thunderbird Club

PEOPLE WHO ARE CONSIDERING BUYING A THUNDERBIRD TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT The reason why it is on my bed is because of thier reverse cut they don't fit in most stands and I haven't ordered a wall mount yet. Also I use an acoustic bass gig bag to carry it around in because it is too big to fit in...
