    James Jamerson

Yeah, but "Standing in the Shadows..." doesn't have the original recordings. Only transcriptions, and recordings of other bassists playing with a session band - unless there's a different package than the one I bought like 10 years ago. It's cool, but not exactly the same as hearing Jamerson...

Maiden Voyage is a great album, but it's nothing like Chameleon. If you're only interested in the funky stuff, stick with the Headhunters stuff. If you're interested in 60s/70s modern jazz, by all means check out Maiden Voyage & his stuff with Miles, too.

    SKA & REGGAE

The old joke is that Reggae was invented when the musicians got too stoned to play ska. :D

    Double Bass mingus

I'd take a lot of the stuff in Beneath the Underdog with a grain of salt. It's not really intended as an autobiography as much as a piece of Beat fiction based on real events. That said, it's still a great read.

    Double Bass mingus

I like the story about how he had a really loud, inattentive audience. They were talking and loudly eating (clinking glasses & silverware etc) thoughout his set. Finally he got so mad, he said "If you guys are just here for dinner, so are we." Then he ordered sandwiches for the band and they...

    Attention web designers!

Frontpage is a good program to use if you're just starting out. It's easy to use, but it's not real professional. Basically you have to do stuff the way microsoft wants you too, or it will look bad. Once you're comfortable using it, if you want something more professional, learn html and work...

    Colin Moulding of XTC

I heard that Andy Partridge stage fright story too. Maybe it's something he developed later in life?

What exactly does the Bassballs pedal do?

The distortion is part of the pedal - you don't need to add a second distortion pedal. There's also a sensitivity control that controls how hard you have to strike the string to get the wah.

    After some African beats.

You should check out Fela Kuti. He was a huge star in Africa for a long time. Very funky grooves.

    Irish Rock Bands

Wow. When can we expect a new Flock of Seagulls album? Also, don't forget Van Morrison and Them.

    New Members, Introduce yourselves!

My name is Guy. I'm 31 and have played the bass since 18. Before that I spent many years playing classical music, but when I got to college I decided I just wanted to rock. I'm currently playing with two bands in the Washington DC area : Kharmel and Walnut Grove Band.

    Overrated bass players

Show of Hands is probably the worst album to judge Wooten by. It was his first solo album and he clearly felt he had a lot to prove. Try What Did He Say or one of the Flecktones albums for something more representative of his playing. (Ooh! First Post!!!)
