They're a great band and it's a fantastic record! Tim tracked through the Noble DI on the record and also tours with one for all their live shows.

I've only heard about noise issues with the Torpedo digital CAB simulator and the Strymon digital delay/reverb pedals. These pedals are like small computers inside and can put out a high frequency "whine" that is picked up by analog pedals through the shared DC ground. If you run just the...

If you're open to parting with your preamp for a week or so, I can swap one or more of the 9V outputs for 12V (yellow). 18V is possible without modification to the preamp via a "9V to 18V boost cable", email me for details on that. ;)

The tubes are user replaceable, but rarely need to be changed. I'm happy to assist if necessary.

Hi @samthebassist24 - Tim Lefebvre does exactly this as his tour rig for Tedeschi Trucks Band. Have a look at the YouTube videos and you'll hear his thoughts on this setup. ;)

Hi @AngelCrusher - Correct, the corner frequencies for the bass and treble controls are at 80Hz and 3.5kHz. The low cut switch rolls off the bottom end with a 150Hz corner. Full specs are at the bottom of this page: Preamps : Noble Amplifier Company I see about a third to half the guys using...

    Noble Amps Preamp

Hi @AMJBASS - It is not affected by phantom power. The XLR output is fed by a Jensen DI transformer, same as a Radial JDI. The transformer isolates the active circuitry from the phantom power. Although even if that were not the case, the voltages inside the Noble preamp are much higher than...

Hi @corsicangroove - Yes, the Noble preamp operates from 220V and there are quite a few users in Europe/Australia/UK/Korea, etc. The AC mains voltage is switchable inside the fuse drawer so you can change the voltage easily if you are traveling.

Hi @jnumme - Most of the db751 users that I've spoken with run the Noble on their pedalboard and then into the input of the db751, using the Noble EQ with the amp EQ set flat (and XLR out to FOH from Noble). With the th500 nearly everyone I talk with is running the Noble into the effect loop as...

I typically have to pick through my pile of GE/Sylvania/RCA to find one with reasonable microphonics for the first stage, thus the additional charge for NOS tubes. JJ on the other hand have been extremely consistent, and are nearly always great. Don't hesitate to drop me an email for help...

Great idea, @KUETSUM! No plans for an official case, but others have used the Pelican Storm iM2050 with good success:

Hi @Dave Hill - It's a modified Fender tone stack, which is flat when the knobs are all the way down.

Correct, there are a few pedals shown being powered by the 9Vdc outputs in the B roll footage, but Amos didn't actually play through them. Both he and Ian went straight in clean: Noble direct into UA Apollo.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! After I disclosed that I was a guitar player I wasn't sure what reception I'd get here... :nailbiting:

Regarding the “price increase” which is mentioned in a few comments, here is the history of the Noble tube preamp: Several years back I posted a prototype of the preamp to our website, offering it at $550. It had only one tube and was a concept design, fairly rough and unrefined. I built a few...
