    Rickenbacker 4003 Bass

Once you play a RIC you will never want to stop playing it. RICs are not only collection items.. they are works of art.. and the sound is like nothing you've ever heard before. Very, very snappy and bright... its the king of treble. No other bass has the feel of a RIC either...

Hello everybody. I have recently aqcuired an awesome job in Ottawa for 4 months (January-April 2001). I am not planning to take my RIC with me because a) I want to take a break b) It's a big pain in the a$$ to take it So my question is, how do you guys recommend i pack my bass, which i...

Looking for Ideas for a new bass design

My dream bass has a fingerboard with a curvature of radius infinity (that means flat). It is waxed, not glossy, and with triangle marble fret marks, a la Rick. It is a four string, with the nut high enough so its designed specially for extra-light and piccolo strings. It has a chrome...

    4-String Conklins - endangered species?

I'm sure i attracted John Turner´s attention now :) Tell me if i´m wrong, but it seems like Conklin specializes in more-than-4-string basses. Since not many of the popular brands (fender, gibson, etc) regularly make bases with say, 7 strings, it is obvious that Conklin is one of the leaders...

How important is "the right string- choice" to YOU?

I can't see how some people don't think of strings as the most vital choice. The right brand name can make you play better, but most important, i think the right gauge can make you play much better. I look back at the years when i only used Dean Markleys and i say "what was i thinking??" :)

    Hartke question.

What exactly is the difference between the TP and the XL series? Sean, i think you got a good deal, 410 cab and 2000 head for $800 new is pretty good i think.

    Ric 4001/4003

The 4001 also had a problem with some frets being dead (no sustain). They fixed this with the 4003, or so i heard.

    Rickenbacker

Hey, how come i never thought about that! Putting an extra switch sounds like an amazing idea! I think i'm going to steal it! I won't be able to perform the capacitor sugery until next weekend, when i come back from my short one-week vacation in Mexico City. I'll have to go to radio shack and...

    Rickenbacker

Hey guys I'm gonna try the "capacitor surgery"tm next week, because finals are over and i'll have some time. Wish me luck! I don't own one, but i have tried a 8 string bass (though it wasn't a RIC, but an acoustic fender bass) and it certainly makes more sense to use it with a pick...

    Rickenbacker

Hey JMP, welcome to Talkbass! I'm also glad you found this site, im always looking for people who know Rickenbackers. About the rick-:D -sound box: I've also heard that the cord that comes with it is toio short. I've never seen one, what exact features does it have? Does it have volume...

    Post pictures of your bass(es)

Oh man, there is something very strange going on on this thread. Anyway, i dont have a nice photo of any of my babies, so here is one i turned into a header of one of my web pages: Bad Link Removed By the way... penis!

    Hartke

Hey, nanook, i like your signature.. i agree :) Yeah, from what i've seen, those hartke cabs are pretty die cast. They have that metal grill instead of just a nylon screen like most of the cabs out there and, well, the hardcore aluminum cones you mentioned. What exactly is the difference...

    Rickenbacker

Okay, i'm looking at the diagram for the 4003 on the rick webpage right now. There are three capacitors: the one out of the bass tone knob (c1), the one out of the treble tone knob (c2), and the one out of the treble volume knob (c3). c3 has only 1/10th of the capacitance of the other...

    Rickenbacker

Hey congrats to everybody who just got a RIC, you'll find that it has a killer sound and playability! I'm also curious about the (in)famous capacitor surgery. Has anyone done it yet? I'm pretty happy with my sound right now, but that would be a cool modification (and one of the few that i...
