    Do you drink tap water?

I used to drink tap water, but now I only drink 'Peckham Spring' bottled water.

How long do you keep your contact lenses in?

Careful with wearing contacts for longer than recommended. The cornea needs to absorb oxygen directly from the air. Some contacts let oxygen through and some don't if you wear the non-permeable ones for too long you'll mess up your eyes.

Does everyone have an "always on?"

I've allways got a Bad Monkey on and a Tech 21 Bass Compactor. The Bass Compactor is widely derided as a noisy POS, but I like it :)

Pick Users I Need Your Opinions/Comments

Same here. For strings it's standard Roto 77's. For picks it's best to try all different kinds and see what you like. That's harder to do with strings because they're too expensive to buy 10 different sets in one go, just to throw most of them away. I used to think you should use the...

Does the Acoustic Volume of a Solid Body Bass Translate to its Amplified Sound?

It's an interesting subject. This interview with Ned Steinberger touches on it. http://www.nedsteinberger.com/inside-ns/interviews.php From what he says it seems there's an an inverse relationship for volume. Acoustic volume is energy being drawn from the string to produce the sound. You need...

In need of a 6 string for metal u.s. made but not expensive.

Fender VI? Invalid Link Removed They're normally tuned E to E (Octave lower than guitar). Getting strings for lower tunings might be a problem, could be worth starting a thread asking If someone's tuning one of these B to C.

repair advice needed: fixation of metal in wood

Fill and redrill is the best way. If you can't be bothered with that dip a couple of matchsticks in PVA wood glue and drop them in. Then screw the part in. You should end up with mashed up matchstick and glue setting to fill the gap. To repeat. It's probably best to just fill and drill. Can't...

    Amp recommendations??

You'll get much more useful responses if you tell us what you want to do with the amp. Are you going to be playing in bands with it, or is it for home practice use? What sort of music do you mostly play? If you're in a band what's the set up? i.e. 1 or 2 guitars etc.

    Deltalite 2510 in small box.

And then you started building speaker cabs? :) I'm guessing shagging means something different in the states. In the UK that statement would mean that you'd spent the afternoon enjoying -- to the fullest extent -- the company of several lady friends :)

I have some stupid questions/worries about my hands and such.

Where's your thumb when you're playing past the 12th fret? I have small hands, and my thumb is towards the top of the neck in the lower positions, and as I move up the neck it moves towards the middle of the neck and by the time I get to the 12th position it is actually sticking out quite far...

Six String guitar with wide string spacing

The various copies of Brian May's 'Red Special' tend towards a wide nut width (around 45 mm) but I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. It can vary a bit, my dad had an old vox teardrop with a very tight string spacing, but both Fender and Gibson (and their derivatives) have a reasonable...

How to convert songs to 440 A?

I used to change the speed of my record player to do this. Higher speed = higher pitch, lower speed = lower pitch. These days I rip a song to a .wav and retune it in Reaper. http://www.cockos.com/reaper/

What is the actual Minor scale?

It depends on the people and their musical culture. Different types of music focus on different aspects of music and use different scales as a result. Before western music got harmonically complex (by which I mean early music with few or no chord changes) you'd play around with rhythm and...

    C standard issue

Never played it live. I'm guessing you tried playing it with the original fingering without retuning and gave up on that. I just had a quick go on a guitar in D standard, and it was too high for me. I'd try keeping your instruments tuned as they are, but droping the low E string (or Eb for...

Ear Training technology on the road

I'd put a keyboard app and the cd's on the phone. It's all contained in one small package and ready to go. The only thing that would put me off that is if you need to quickly start stop the audio. I had to do that with some language cds i put on my phone. The phone wasn't cutting it because...

    Are practice amps flat?

Have you tried playing acoustic through it as is, to see how it sounds? That'd be my starting point. If I didn't like that i'd try a preamp into the cd input (or fx loop if it's got one).

How do you make drum tracks?

You could use a drum sequencer, or software drum machine. I'm not up to speed on the current offerings. I used to use fruityloops but I don't think you can even get that anymore. The other option would be to record a metronome (you can download free apps for your phone) and manually cut out...

How to play Drop C without 5string bass?

That'll work for some people, but it depends on your style. I build some parts based around open strings, as do quite a few people towards the metal side of things. As an example try playing this in BEAD: Everything'll be fine until you hit the vocal line "Happiness....." then it'll get a bit...
