SOLD Spector Rebop 5 string with EMG DC's and BQC

I am emerging from the woodwork offering my 5 string Spector Rebop fiver in oil finish Zebrano. I've been away from the forum for a few years thanks to kids and work. I've lately been trying to divest myself of anything I'm not using that would be better enjoyed by others. This beauty has been...

    B Strings - Tales of Woe....and Surprise!

Okay, so what are these installation tricks you mention? From my own experience with B string chorus (warbly overtones), the best solution is to tune up to pitch, do all your standard gentle stretching to settle the string, tune back up to pitch and then, this is the important part, push...

New Pickups for Spector Euro 5LX: To EMG or not to EMG?

Nice. Running this setup in my Rebop. Agree with JimmyM, I typically never run my treble past centre. I don't find my bass all that sizzly but the BQC has adjustable knee frequencies for the treble. I forget which one I selected but you could always try fiddling with that. One funny thing...

How to warm up a US 62 AVRI Jazz?

So I've had a 2006 US AVRI Jazz for a few years now and I'm just tired of struggling to get a good tone from it. Preface: Not going to sell it because the original neck ski jumped and has been replaced with a Wamoth so resale is, well, you know. Plus I love the way it plays with the nice...

Books for every scale and arpeggio?

+1 for guitar Grimoire. I think they make a bass one as well. A friend lent it to me and I honestly think 90% of it is useless for 90% of players though, as only 10% of that book applies to 90% of popular music from what I remember of it. I'd be inclined to agree with the post above unless...

    New to floating thumb/bass question

I use kind of a hybrid of the two. My thumb doesn't really touch anything when playing the E. My forearm would be resting on the bass though. Thumb just kind of hangs. Don't overthink it. Just practice doing scale runs up and down the strings. I actually had to think for a minute about what I...

That would be how a string goes dead. I meant why are some fubar'd out of the box?

    Constant dead E string problem

I'm wondering what actually causes a dead string? I recently put a Warmoth neck on my 62ri jazz and strung it up with my usual d'addario xl's. Tubby, thuddy E with very little fundamental, lots of wolfy overtones and half the sustain of the other strings. Luckily I bought a two pack and as such...

    Warmoth Bass

Tung oil if applied properly should feel like pretty much raw wood. It just seals the pores. As far as quality, don't sweat it. I recently acquired a neck from them and its perfect in every way. Not a flaw to be found. There have been some crazy weather swings in the couple months I've had it...

    Replacement neck

*slaps forehead* you're right Caca! don't know how I missed the truss rod issue... To the O.P.: looks like your options are to either get your neck fixed by a more skilled luthier, Wait for a replacement three bolt to show up in the classifieds, buy one new from allparts/mighty...

    Replacement neck

The distance between the tuner holes shouldn't change otherwise the strings would be out of line coming from the tuners. One thing I found is that the stock 17.5mm holes Warmoth specs are too small for Fenders "vintage" tuners. I always found the tuners crappy feeling anyway and replaced them...

    Replacement neck

As was mentioned you could just order a Warmoth neck un-drilled. It would be a very simple procedure to mark and drill for the three bolt pattern. I just got one to replace the S-curved neck on my 62RI Jazz and the quality is ridiculously good.

    Warmoth neck finishes

Got one recently in clear satin nitro. Very silky. Not sticky in the least and feels great for moving quickly up and down the neck. Almost feels like raw wood.

Stacked sweepable mid for jazz bass. Are they available?

That actually looks really cool! Easy to try and reverse and not too expensive either. If my jazz wasn't a stack knob I'd be tempted... As has been pointed out though, It doesn't boost anything, just variable cutting. With passive you only have the pickups native output and then the ability...

Stacked sweepable mid for jazz bass. Are they available?

This is a great idea too! Not very expensive and easily reversible (sell if you don't like). I absolutely love my Sansamp VT bass and actually use it as a pre-amp sometimes bypassing the one in my amp altogether. No sweepable mids but a ridiculous variety of actually usable tones. Not to...

Stacked sweepable mid for jazz bass. Are they available?

You can't use passive and boost in the same sentence. It's either on or cut. No boost. Edit: What you would be looking for is something where you could adjust which mid frequency you cut. Sorry, can't think of anything off hand but it would be cool!

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 70

Have a 18v BQC in my Rebop. Can't compare accurately to the tone pump as I also switched from HZ's to DC's at the same time. New setup has just a tiny hint less grit, sizzle, hair, whatever you want to call it but lost none of the aggressive, growly, grindy Spector tone. The BQC really added...

    Frustrating

UPS in Canada can suck an egg too. I won't even get started on all the ways they have screwed up deliveries for me. It has now gotten to the point where if a company is only willing to use UPS I won't buy from them. Plus UPS does their own brokerage at the border so you get flat out raped on...

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 70

Totally agree! My Zebrano rebop sounds incredible unplugged. Some basses resonate more than others but none have ever come close to the Zebop. I know the term "growly" gets tossed around alot here (especially with Spectors) but it really growls unplugged. Very woody and aggressive. I typically...

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 70

I use Warwick wax on mine but any wax/mineral oil mix works well. The waxier the better. Any higher end kitchenware store should carry butcher block paste for cutting boards. It's generally just beeswax and mineral oil which is perfect. Don't use any kind of cooking oil as it will go rancid and...

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

Yep, my Rebop is oil finish, that's why I use it. I buff it in with a soft cloth and there is no residue. The bass feels dry to the touch. I live in a very dry climate so I figure keeping up on it is a good idea. I have a wax oil mix for my butchers block and its definitely a lot oilier. The...

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

Woops, you're right, seems its just the Zebrano Rebops that are like that. The poly ones are REALLY glossy whereas the nat ones end up being more of a satin finish with the wax.
  35. H

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

Nope, natural wood. No clearcoat. You can tell on the Rebops by looking at the part of the neck you can see above the pickups. On the poly finish ones it is raw maple color. On the natural finish ones it is stained. That Warwick wax is good stuff! Smells nice too. At least it's not Fender wax??

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

Yeah it's a good one. Seems weird it's been flipped so many times when it's such a monster. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I really don't think I could ever get rid of it. Don't worry it's well taken care of. I even wax it every few months with Warwick wax. It sounded good stock...

    SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

I submit exhibit B. Fireplace shot FTW ;) The artificial light brings out the lighter streaks but it's totally the same bass. Buskman on here was the original owner and got it right from the Spector shop. There's a picture on one of the first few Spector threads of Stewart himself...
