To me, this sounds exactly like when i changed my pots to 500k pots. I did the mod to add clarity to my bass but all it did was add a brittle harshness and painful high-end to my tone. Were the pots 500k that came with the kit? Changing back to 250k would fix this problem.

Id say go for the CV P bass. With a Jazz, Precision and 5 string ray, you'd have a pretty versatile arsenal. Those CV basses seem to have a pretty good reputation on here too.
