If you have access to the necessary tools recording yourself to the metronome then zooming in a little on the wave forms is a good way to see your attack in a more concrete way. Obviously how it sounds comes first but it helps to be able to see it

I know each store is different and everyone's experience are different but I've mostly had good experiences at the GC near me (Tulsa). They have a decent selection of basses and there's usually a cool used bass or two there. The employees are pretty friendly and are active in our small music scene

You're right the buzz in the video was normal. There was a much louder problematic buzz that didn't appear in that video. The louder buzz and crackle was what I was trying to diagnose. I was confused when I posted that first video!

Small update. I just went to test out a different bass on the amp. Turned it on without the instrument plugged in (tuning mute on). Started out with a LOUD buzz for a few seconds then a large crackle and the buzz got a little quieter and then totally faded out.

I completely forgot to account for single coil buzz. This may be what it is but even so it seems so very loud. Is it normal for single coil buzz to be really loud?

It does not buzz with no instrument plugged in. Could the grounding on the input jack be screwy?

I've never heard of neck issues. I have a 6'er myself. I've owned the bass for about 4 or 5 years with nothing ever done to the neck and it is still very straight. My experience has been that it is reliable

No regrets from me. You don't have to play all the notes (although it is tempting). I use my 6 at church and my 4 in my rock band.

for me the benifit is the extra range. At church The band is simple so I get to explore the range of my 6'er a lot. In the rock band I'm in I wouldn't be able to do that effectively so I use a 4 string. I think the benefits you're getting out of extended range depend on the situation.

Boris what did you end up doing? I have an affinity p bass from 8 years ago with EMG's and a broken trussrod (from my dumb 16 year old self). I thought about buying a Fender MIM Jazz neck to replace it. Anyone have any suggestions on necks?
