Big Al in Church: It Sounds Great!

Wow! You guys were on fire. I think any bass would’ve sounded great in your hands today!

I know we all joke about our Sweetwater engineers…

I had a Sweetwater rep I didn’t like very well. He didn’t really know what he was talking about when I would ask him a specific question, but he would act like he did. I don’t know what happened but I got switched to Keith Klikas and I like working with him real well.

    Does this look contrived?

I’ve got the same issue with this one. I might try the crayon trick. That sounds like a good option. I cut the pickguard down because I hated covering the cool paint job. I uncovered as much as I could without routing showing.

When you've been happy with Nickel Lo-Riders, what bass were they on?

I have nickel low riders on my J bass, PJ bass and five string Yamaha TRB1005. My J bass and my PJ bass are strung BEAD. Overall they are pretty warm sounding. I like the sound of the DR Sunbeams (nickel) but with a round core they’re a little floppy for the B string. The Lo riders are hex core...

New expanding pedalboard day - D’addario

I’m using a one spot power supply. Now that you mention it I don’t believe most other power supplies are going to fit underneath this thing. Pretty low clearance underneath and the rails are not open on the underside.

New expanding pedalboard day - D’addario

I couldn’t decide what length pedaltrain nano to get and I saw this small adjustable board. I talked to my Sweetwater rep. He had seen one in person and said it looked pretty sturdy.I ordered one for $99 but passed on the $99 bag. I have have some bags that will probably work. Sweetwater filled...

downfalls to p bass w/ added jazz pick up?

I’ve got a PJ I put together with three knobs. Volume, 4 position rotary switch and tone. I wired the p/u selector switch to be - P only, P and J in series, P and J in parallel, J only. The P only is the most aggressive sounding. The P and J in series is still pretty gnarly but has more...

RIP Jay Weaver bass player of Big Daddy Weave. Died of Covid complications. I think he had trouble with diabetes. He had lost both feet when I saw them a few years ago. Prayers for his wife and kids. They have some great Christian music.

For the love of god, can someone please help me? (Bass wiring)

Sorry, I’m not being clear. I mean the leads going to the pot.

For the love of god, can someone please help me? (Bass wiring)

When the nut pulls the pot up against the foil, the wire connection lugs can sometimes contact the foil. Know what I mean? Like if the foil doesn’t stay flat against the body, it could touch the positive wire connection from the pickup.

For the love of god, can someone please help me? (Bass wiring)

Ok, dumb question...The front of the lugs on the pots are not shorting to the foil, are they? I had to put electrical tape on front of my pot lugs to keep from grounding out. Hope this helps.

    Mesa M6 Carbine

I absolutely love my M6 carbine. It’s got a great sound running through my GK 212II cabinet. The fan makes a little noise, but that’s the only hiss I notice. Sorry to hear it’s lifetime may be limited, it was going to be my “forever” amp. Plenty of power and it may have a baked in lower-mid tone...

    SOLD 1968 Gretsch 6072

Thanks. I heard some of them had an end pin to let it be played like an upright. It kind of sounds like an upright. Probably because it is a hollow body. The F holes on front are painted on and not real holes. Cuts down on feedback I would imagine.

    SOLD 1968 Gretsch 6072

1968 Gretsch 6072 four string bass. All original. Nice thumpy sound. it has a couple small cracks in the finish from the neck pickup going up to the neck and a little of the binding has fallen off. Overall it’s in pretty good shape for a 50-year-old bass. It has the original foam mute with the...

    NBPD- (new bass parts day)

Wow! That is beautiful! I love the way the colors of wood blend together. A couple questions if I may. What are the frets made of? They look gold color. Also, what is the control knob layout? (Preamp?) That is flat out gorgeous!

    wax in In Ear monitors

I've used a drill bit the same diameter as the bore in the in-ears. Spin it between your thumb and first finger as you slowly insert it. The channel in the bit will pull the wax out as it goes in. Mine are clear so I can see it going in. Be careful not to remove any plastic or damage anything.

Ibanez 1205E premium - 34 inch scale, 5 piece wenge/bubinga neck with titanium reinforcement rods. mahogany body with ovangkol top. Cleaning Tolex: Your secret to make it look new please

I just used soap and water and a soft bristle brush but then applied "Armor All" while it was still wet. I smeared the armor all all over the tolex with my hands. Let it soak in for about ten minutes then wiped it all dry with a clean dry rag. It gives it that new shine. You can use a black...

Hey, I want to thank Spiritbass for letting me try out his Dingwalls. I live in the same area he does so I asked him if he would mind if I played one of his Dingwalls. The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

They put in a by-pass highway to make it easier to pass through the area. It's WAY over-engineered. Now people have a hard time figuring out how to get to where they want to go. Lots of people end up going the wrong way on one-way roads. At least there's no more bumper to bumper traffic. But...

    Shure wireless questions

Mine's a PGX-14 or something like that by Shure for guitars or vocal. It seems to work fine with bass. A couple of us have our own individual transmitters and use the same receiver kept at our church. Works great even with five strings. There's lot of transmitters and receivers in that room and...

Higher Quality Barrel Jack Than Switchcraft

I've replaced a lot of mine too. If the plug pulls one way or the other, they hum and pop. The barrel jacks don't seem to hold the plug as tight as a chassis mount style. You can't access the contacts to bend them in for more pressure. And because they are skinny, they naturally don't have as...

    Lee Sklar on Grammys shortly

yea, you couldn't really see much of him. I couldn't hear him very well either. Maybe I didn't have it turned up loud enough to hear him. I think Kris might have got lost momentarily.

Nathan East just had the most fun of the entire Grammy night!

That was really GREAT. I was watching for Lee Sklar with Kris and Willie but it was not much. Daft Punk and Stevie killed it!
